In a place far, far away
Probably the same things you are doing. SPs are people too. An office worker who rides the TTC probably has a greater chance of getting SARS than an SP who drives to "work".

Just my two cents worth.

Actually, I think what I will do is exploit the irrational fears of the SARS outbreak and get the airlines to pay me for flying up..for once in over 13 years of paying my own way to Toronto, I'll get my agent to get me a TV spot...eating at the local restaurants..the Y..em..oh..well..the upshot is the place is as safe as it was a year ago. Go figure.

The risk is real that you can get hit by a car crossing the street. This hobby is full of risks. Prior to SARS I could easily find fault with any married or involved individual who thinks getting a little knookie on the side is harmless. 15 days, 20 days..20 years..it's all the same. The greater majority of people who got SARS didn't fuck anyone in their close proximity. However, those of you who are fucking and have someone who you care about in your close proximity, why in the world do you all of a sudden change your otherwise risky behavior?..It just defies credibility.

If you put it over your head it will!

Besides, what are we supposed to do? Wear a mask? Yeah that would go over real well when it came time for the bj.

Yeah the risk might be real but I am certainly not going to let a bunch of media hype stop me from getting laid!

I don't think SPs are going to be at any particular higher risk than anyone else, from what I've heard SARS patients don't have the energy for sex!

The biggest risk in Toronto seems to be for health care professionals who are taking care of the patients, or people in close contact with the original carriers. I'd be more worried about travelling in the subway with a nurse, if that kind of thing actually bothered me. So far, with only a few hundred cases in a city of millions, I'm pretty comfortable with those odds.

what sars...?

it was also mentioned today that you had a greater chance of:
-strangling yourself in your sleep
-being hit by lightning
than contracting sars...

The latest negative media outbreak is simply a perfect example of the "ignorant media hype" that has been plaguing athletes and actors and public figures for decades...its just that now, we (the city of TO) is on the receiving end and we can now see that it is a load of ****...you know it gets even crazier when the idiotic U.S. media gets a hold of it....!

To quote a well know Buffoon (I mean Mayor),
Do yourself and the city a favour:
-go eat dim sum
-go to a ball game
-book yourself an SP

As i have done with "Miko" from TOG...Thanks Mel!

See ya

OldPerv: I don't think you mean what you are saying, when have almost 500 people died of lightning in less than 2 months? How many have strangled themselves in their sleep in 2 months?

SARS can be caught simply by being in the presence of an infected person sneezing. There are 4,300 people infected now, and those are only the ones that have decided to walk into hospitals and admit it, how many thousands more are walking with it and passing it to 3 people each one a day?

I think the media is even under-reporting it. Mel Lastman and Canada's tourism board must think people are stupid to believe them that they can come visit Toronto without reperpercussions and health threats, I think these bozos care more for the tourists' $$$$ than their lives.

In the WHOLE world!

How many people do you think have the flu right now?
It is just as bad and you don't see the media freaking out about that now do you.

It is all media hype. Just a bunch of gossip hogs if you ask me.

way more than 4300 people die every day of diabetes world wide. SARS is an example of media frenzy and overhype driving a public mass panic.

its foolish and destructive.

suggestions that this is some sort of bioweapon experiment gone wrong... is merely fear mongering STUPIDITY.

But the flu and diabetes are not passed on by air particles and touching elevator buttons, and they don't kill within 72 hours of contracting it-- think about that boys and girls.

if i were 2 build a bio weapon... it would likely be based on ebola... or maybe an airborne mutant strain of that flesh rotting disease that pops up from time to time... [necrotizing fascitis]

if one wishes to build utterly horrific weapons... theres better places to start than with the common cold...

SARS is not worth the panic I'm seeing.

but thats just my oppinion.

Canada/Toronto has had 16 deaths from SARS and approximately 324 outbreaks of the disease have been recorded. The last case to be diagnosed outside of a health facility organization was April 14. So given that the average population of Toronto according to the 2001 Census was 2,481,494. ... I feel pretty safe as regards SARS - however, crossing the road is definitely another matter altogether.

when in doubt... THINK!!!

exactly.

life is an ongoing exercise in risk management. iterative and continuos application of lessons learned. thats basically how people work.

I'm not about to let sars stop me from doing whatever I feel like, going out and shopping in chinatown is actually quite relaxing. :) besides, late nite clubbing with goth chix is a most excellent reason to live!!!!

our greatest enemy at this time, is ourselves. if we allow ourselves to be ruled by fear, anxiety and media hype... then we allow someone else [the media?] do our thinking for us and that is a truly dangerous situation.

television, drug of a nation...

and just so we are utterly clear and concise... remember that it was people like hitler and stalin who wrote the book on how to use mass media to win friends and influence people...

who does it benefit for us to all be panicky about SARS???? what does it distract our attention as a society away from??? that might be a tad more immediately urgent or important some how...

& now a word from our sponsors...

the media dishes out crap because somebody is paying for it somewhere along the line. its called ADVERTISING REVENUE.

now while we were all getting worked up about sars hysteria...

more important things happened in the world
someones kid was born, someone had a birthday, someone else watched as part of the atlantic fishery for codfish was closed down.

both koreas and the usa are haggling over coldwar style nuclear detente in beijing.

oh and apparently some schmuck named tarak aziz is now a prisoner of the u.s. [it seems someone looted his house after he lost his job]

and after that happened, people who formerly were forbidden to express there religion... got to do so for the first time in a long time because a guy named saddam seems to have vanished.

oh, and where did all those mythological WMDs go anyway?

and the band played on...

Media over reacting re SARS!

I think any responsible sp would take precautions re SARS. If one feels sick ( thinks there may be a problem) they probably would not see any clients and head for the doctor. Obviously a high fever, chest pains, headache, difficulty in breathing etc. would give anyone reason to see a doctor!

Certainly, if I had symtoms I wouldn't leave home to see my friendly neighborhood SP. I'd immediately see a doctor!. I'm sure the "resonsible sp's" would do the same. Also the media over-reacts and blow things way out of proportion! Just watch CNN for 10 minutes!

I think Toronto is relatively safe at this point!
