Uh oh...looks like innovation has stalled over at Samsung. Apple better get its game back up or else the "engineers" at Samsung will just be sitting around twiddling their thumbs.

Comparing it to Samsung Galaxy S3, technology analyst Jeff Kagan said, "The Samsung Galaxy S4 is very good, but looks like an evolution to the S3, not a revolution."
http://www.examiner.com/article/samsung-galaxy-s-iv-evolutionary-not-revolutionary

Samsung's Galaxy S4 is evolutionary, not revolutionary (although they have changed from IV to 4). In a sense, Samsung is taking a(nother) page from Apple's playbook, since that is a sentiment that has been expressed for the iPhone 4S and 5.

Indeed, Morgan Stanley analysts in a research note asked whether the Galaxy S4 was more like the S3S in a reference that swiped Apple's iPhone 4S device, which was more evolutionary.

What would you expect, an oval screen?

I would also like to see what hardware revolutions Apple has been responsible for. The i5 isn't exactly a huge jump over the 4.

it is a full inch longer and finally has 4g and a drop down menu.stuff droid has had for a few years now. apple really hasn't done a damn thing new in a long while, they just got fans that can't get apple dick down their throat far enough.

legendary innovation to take an existing product (ipad) and shrink it (mini ipad). show me any real innovation between the ipod touch, ipad, iphone, ipad mini. other than size and being able to make a phone call there is basically no difference. they are walking down the BB path.

The Galaxy S4's Key Lime Pie problem

Samsung's latest flagship will have the newest version of Android -- for about two months.

Samsung Electronics' latest will run Android 4.2.2, also known as Jelly Bean.

The new Galaxy S4 features cutting edge hardware.

Too bad its operating system will be out of date about four weeks after the phone hits store shelves.

Samsung Electronics' latest phone, which will debut in April at the earliest, will run Android 4.2.2, also known as Jelly Bean. It's also the latest version of Android -- for now.

The problem is another version of Android, widely believed to be called Key Lime Pie, will likely make its debut at Google's I/O developer conference in May.

With the first carriers expected to get the Galaxy S4 in April, Samsung has a limited window before its best phone is running software that's no longer the latest and greatest.

Samsung's dilemma underscores the broader problem that Android handset manufacturers face with Google: slow access to the latest version of the mobile operating system.

In its defense, Samsung has had a fairly decent track record when it comes to keeping its phones updated. But a constant complaint by users of all phones has been the slow rollout of different versions of Android.

For instance, the difference between when a Nexus device gets an update and when an HTC or Samsung phone can often be dramatic.

In situations like the Galaxy S4, where another version of Android is likely just around the corner, the lack of vendor control can be glaring.

Android updates are complicated by the relationship between the handset vendor, Google, and the carriers. The handset vendor has to wait for Google to release the code. The vendor in turn has to take that code and integrate it into its customized version of Android -- in Samsung's case TouchWiz -- which can take time. Finally, the altered version of Android has to be submitted to the carriers, which can take their time when it comes to approval and roll out.

It's likely the cause of some of the perceived tension between Google and Samsung. While Google has called Samsung a threat, Samsung has been working on another operating system, Tizen, as a potential alternative to Android. While Tizen is open to a number of players, its development is under the direction of Samsung and Intel.

For now, Android remains dominant, and Samsung will stick with the operating system. Samsung executives have maintained that there is a relationship built on respect between the two companies, while Google has said that it is committed to being open.

And smartphones like the Galaxy S4 will continue to suffer from Android envy just weeks after they launch.

I don't know why any smartphone company has to keep pumping out a new phone every year.
you could ask the same of every car model, computer product, clothing line, watch's, shoes, TV,Fridge etc etc etc.

there must be a reason ;)

Gee, could it explain why we have jets instead of still flying around in bi-planes ?

I will guess it comes down to those who can innovate will, those that can't innovate ... will pretend they choose not to.

You must be operating off an Apple iPhone dictionary and instead use a real English because evolutionary is still involves new features and a logical extension of design principals. Revolutionary (a subjective term) propels the device into a totally new user & functional product.

You really got to be a little slow to suggest that Apple engineers actually developed the features that currently exist in Samsung Galaxy S III that has yet to surface on an Apple iPhone product. LTE was first in the S III - not the iPhone. Now the Galaxy S 4 is introduced with even more software and sensor capabilities beyond the S III and you figure that these were designed by Apple engineers. Apple needs to get their game back just to catch the second string of the world's largest smartphone manufacturer.

As a past iPhone owner and speaking on behalf of many friends who have left iPhone and followed the innovative technology in Samsung ... you are blissfully ignorant at just how antiquated iPhone is. Hopefully the clever Apple engineers have taken apart enough Samsung phones to figure out how to get an NFC chip in their phone. Of course that's not much help to those holding the current technology antiques in their hands.

Yawn.. Your article only is saying what everyone said about the iphone 5 when it came out and was not much of an upgrade from the iphone 4S. :hand:

But of course that is forgotten old news to you right? Thought so.

I hear that the iPhone 5 is not really different from the 4S
It just has earpods Instead of headphones. Lol
And actually this thing : "The iPhone 5 has a Lightning connector

Apple has ditched the 30-pin connector with the iPhone 5 and gone for a specially designed 8-pin connector called Lightning.

The connector is reversible, so you can plug things in both ways. It is also much faster and more durable. "

Yup, makes me laugh.

He should follow your example. Who cares, who wins and loses. While you prefer the iPhone, you saw Samsung doing well and capitalized on it. As a result of being pragmatic and not being an ideologue ranting about Apple on some forum, you've made some cash.

Beautiful.

So, what's been "revolutionary" recently at Samsung?
