It has been relatively a boring period for innovation in the cell phone market. Samsung introduced the S-5 last spring but apart from the higher spec's there wasn't any new 'wow' features brought to the table. As they target the Christmas market this could change as Samsung and Apple bring out their new products.
This week Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note Edge, the first device to use their new curved screen technology. The edge concept is a great idea and allows a whole new level of functionality to the device. The curved screen is touch sensitive and allows controls, menus , etc to be displayed and used without affecting the full screen main display. In idle mode, the edge screen can operate independently allowing it to provide streaming information, alarms, clock, etc information.
I would love to see this functionality in regular handsets. A video is provided below:
