I think they're getting off easy.
The steamy saga of a Quebec porn star, a former escort, sexy selfies and a bundle of cocaine is drawing to a close.
Melina Roberge, 27, is expected to finish her Australian prison sentence on May 29 and will then be deported to Canada.
Roberge — a former escort — and porn star Isabelle Lagace were arrested in 2016 trying to smuggle 35 kilograms of cocaine into Australia aboard the Sea Princess cruise ship. Both were convicted and sentenced to jail terms of more than seven years.
The blow had a street value of $21 million.
Lagace was released from an Aussie prison in February and three days later booted from the country.
Since slipping back into Canada on March 1, she has kept a low profile. According to Le Journal De Montreal, Lagace had to undergo two weeks of quarantine because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pretty brunette has since refused interviews. She was the first released because she pleaded guilty early in the proceedings.
But what a ride the pair had.
According to their testimony, they were offered $6,000 play money by Roberge’s sugar daddy and an all-expenses paid trip around the world, featuring some of the planet’s most exotic locales.
Stops included New York, Colombia, Tahiti, Chile, Peru and New Zealand.
Roberge testified she had sex with numerous men her sugar daddy introduced her to at nightclubs in Morocco.
Once the cocaine delivery was done, each woman was to paid $100,000.
The pair posted a multitude of photos of themselves in bikinis frolicking on some of the world’s most famous beaches.
Roberge was told by her “sugar daddy” she would be acting as a decoy and was encouraged “to take pictures of myself in exotic locations and post them on Instagram to receive ‘likes.’”
But when they arrived in Sydney, the party came crashing down on them courtesy of the Australian Border Services.
The delightful duo were part of a wide-ranging plot that involved others. Also arrested and convicted was Quebecer André Jorge Tamine who was nabbed with 60 kilograms of cocaine with an Australian street value of $60 million.
He will be eligible for parole in March 2022.
