Hello,
There was an hour long documentary on CBC Canada, on the subject of Safer Sex Trade.
It discussed the situation of Street Sex Workers, An individual escort, a Vancouver area Madam, and volunteers of Jen's Kitchen in Vancouver down town that voluntarily provide meals/sandwiches and juices etc to Street Sex Workers.
The underlying proposition was to show the discrepancy in laws that deal differently with Street Sex Workers, and Escorts. The proposition was also to promote legalization of prostitution in Canada. It also raised the questions of safety of Street Sex Worker.
It was an effective presentation and strengthened my belief that prostitution should be legalized and regulated in Canada. We can not just go on implementing archaic laws in the name of morality.
Cheers.

First of all, prostitution is already legal in Canada; it is practices surrounding it that are illegal. Right now, any escort who works for herself and only does outcalls is 100% legal in Canada.

What the push in Vancouver generally is about is legalizing public solicitation (street hookers) and quite frankly I like a law that says there can't be a hooker trying to work outside my house. The bonus in Ontario is that the same law that is used for dealing with squeegie kids could essentially be used on street hookers if the feds were ever to hang themselves repealing that law.

As for the Vancouver madame, she would want the "living off the avails" and "bawdy house" laws removed so that she can profit off her brothel legally. I agree that these types of laws need some changing but they were instituted for a good reason and that was to discourage the enslavement and exploitation of women into the sex trade. Of course there are now other laws that have teeth that can do this but a more comprehensive plan is needed before they overhaul what they have now.

Unfortunately, no politician wants to end their career by doing something that is right over something that will keep their job.

Never the safest place
It's repeated on Saturday night. It's not exactly the most most thrilling hour you'll ever see on television. It made the business look kind of dull, which I suppose might have been the intent.

I'd like to see something on TV showing how large the business is, and how two-faced the politicians and police are on the subject. If more people understood that the larger cities like Toronto might have only a few dozen street prostitutes, but a few thousand MPAs and escorts who are left alone by cops and often licensed by their cities, they would realize the present laws were irrelevant and should be reformed. Other countries similar to Canada have already done it.
