A display at Wicked Wanda's sex shop is upsetting some Ottawa residents.

Wicked Wanda's put out a window display last week that featured dolls wearing leather and chains in BDSM poses. Before long a resident of the government town complained to a city councillor, according to the Ottawa Citizen. She said it "overstepped the bounds of propriety."

But Wicked Wanda doesn't shy away from a controversy, you can be sure.

Store owner Wanda Cotie told the Citizen she was trying to promote discussion. She certainly promoted her own store when several media outlets covered the display and the ensuing debate about whether or not it was appropriate to show partially-clad dolls in sexual positions.

She's also posted on the store's Facebook page that it would offer a discount to anyone who brings in a clipping of one of those news stories. The store's website says those who share their thoughts on the Facebook page can win a $25 gift certificate.

"Tongues have been wagging about Wanda's new Holiday display," the post says. "Apparently some people have trouble seeing this display for what it is, a lighthearted, fully clothed and inclusive homage to the adult fun that Wanda's is famous for."

The storefront was inspired by the 50 Shades of Grey craze and designed by a customer with a fetish for dressing up dolls, according to the Citizen.

Wanda told the media that she wasn't trying to offend anyone. Nonetheless, the Citizen reported that Wicked Wanda's has partially covered the display with cardboard.

This isn't the first time sexually-explicit content has ruffled feathers in Canada's capital. This spring, Heritage Minister James Moore declared an exhibition about sex designed for teens "insulting to taxpayers."

That exhibit ran in Montreal and Regina without issue before opening in Ottawa.
