Now official. The Ukrainian government has also filed a formal objection and given Putin 24 hours to withdraw or it's war.

I don't think Ukraine is currently capable of any war except guerrilla-style war which would make it less attractive for the conquerors...

Officers Of 76th Russian Shock Troops Division Operating In Ukraine
According to one of the participants in the operation, officers and contractors of the 76th Shock Troops Division have been re-locating to Ukrainian territory since last week. By early this week, there were already more than 100 soldiers. The last of the famous detachments was sent on Thursday, 27 February. They are fully armed, with 5,000 rounds of ammunition per person. There is one truck per 10 soldiers, and they are completely loaded with weapons including flame-throwers. Upon arrival on the territory of Ukraine, they did not report their geographical locations to people, and they were assigned local tasks. Most likely, this was Sevastopol and Simferopol. Emergency troops remain in Yysk, and did not take part in the operation. The barracks of the 76th Storm Troops Division on Margelova Street in Pskov is practically empty.

It's never good when a powerhouse like Russia pulls such a move...is this the beginning...

I don't know how you guys see this, but I see it at a big thing that could have serious consequences..

"
In Washington, President Barack Obama expressed concern about reported Russian military movement inside crisis-torn Ukraine and warned of consequences.

"Any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing," he said in a brief appearance. "The United States will stand with the international community in affirming that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine."

In the Crimea the only real opposition are Crimean Tatars - and that is all about hatred of Russians (ironically specifically Stalin - who of course was not Russian). Remember Crimea is a peninsula and is it hard to get people undetected in and out of it.

No it isn't, President Obama or more specifically his village idiot Joe Biden might be that crazy, but the U.S. military is not. The sun will come up tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow and the day after that . . . .

As previously mentioned I suspect that this may be as far as it goes. Russian has an excellent claim to Crimea and what on earth is going to be the Western argument - - -Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev was one Hell of a guy and he banged his shoe on the Rostrum, so therefore what he decided to do stands?

Well, there is the theoretical and there is the practical. Theoretically, Russia has invaded a neighbouring state and infringed its territory. Quebec speaks a different language than the rest of Canada, but if France invaded it, Ottawa would be very unhappy. I don't think the argument that some guy called Louis should never have signed it away in 1763 is going to cut much ice.

Practically speaking, it's hard to see anyone being physically able to stop the Russians or wanting to try. So Russia gets it back.

And when they get back Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk next week or the week after, same dichotomy.

And when they bring back Yanushkevitch, because the whole deal is that he is - according to Russian spin - still president of Ukraine and is only hiding out in Russia because of death threats and re-impose him on Ukraine.....

Will you bet your bottom dollar that tomarrow there will be sun?
In this case with a 99.8 percent probability. The Russians aren't going to go nuclear over this, the U.S. isn't going to go nuclear over this, neither are the British or French and Ukraine isn't a nuclear power.

To take this analogy to the realms of the ridiculous. France wouldn't come to help Québec if the U.S. said hands off our neighbor Canada. Or perhaps better take this back to say 1900 if Great Britain had said the same thing. Louis XV at least had legitimacy as King of France and Navarre.

In the realm of the practical as said although I'm sure V.V. would dearly love to take over all of Ukraine, he isn't crazy and I believe fully realizes that as to Crimea he has an argument and no one is going to do anything. Eastern Russian speaking Ukraine perhaps but there may well be consequences. All of Ukraine you bet there will be significant economic and political consequences.

Ukraine the next Afghanistan ?
Nope, not unless the Russians attempt to take over the entire country.

Eastern Rusophone Ukraine and particularly Crimea are firmly in the Russian camp. There are been several maps in these threads and you can clearly see the lines.

What serious consequences??... Obama and the EU will do nothing when the mighty bear devours Ukraine

The US & EU will not go to war with Russia. There is nothing that they can do to stop Russia.
It seems like Putin shits on Obama's serious concern.
