Roxio VHS to DVD capture -Signal Protected?

I've got Roxio CD & DVD Burning software to put my dad's old 8mm video tapes to DVD.

When I start up the camera and route the output into my laptop to copy the tape to my computer, Roxio software says Signal Protected and recording stops. The software *thinks* I'm trying to duplicate a copy-protected movie or whatever but it's not.

One suggestion was to run the video from the camera through an old VHS player and then into the computer.

Didn't work. I've got the setup in front of me as I type this and Signal Protected still comes up.

Anyone had this issue? Is there a workaround?

Did you try recording the video on the VHS, and then playing it from the VHS to record onto your computer?

Or you might try different video capture cards (e.g. Hauppauge) and the software which comes with it.
