Do you guys know when the Roku 4 will be available in Canada?

I have the Roku 3 upstairs and love it, but wanted something for basement and a bit more powerful to handle my DSLR clips and I think the 4 might do it with the improved processor. The Roku 3 stutters a bit with high bitrate clips.

So my other question is if I buy the American version ($240) on Amazon.ca, will it work in Canada and what is different if anything?

All I really care for in Netflix YouTube, Vimeo and use it to play my videos and images.

This is better than Roku and Netflix and doesn't cost a penny.... ;)

That's nice but how do you hook it up to your TV. Maybe a lap top...maybe your smart TV browser or blue ray player or another method.

Too cumbersome.

I have smart TVs, Blue Ray players all with these smart apps and browsers, however here are the main problems with them and why I don't use them:
- UI and processors are very slow compared to roku 4
- outdated apps
- can't play all media files like I mentioned such as with high bitrate for my personal DSLR video clips
- Roku 4 has the most apps up to date thus far and supports many media formats

Its all about convenience, speed and the enjoyment, and ROKU 4 is where its at. I don't mind paying as long as I have piece of mind it is safe and it works when I need it to work.

Thanks to the wonderful advice I impulsively pulled the trigger on it.

Not cumbersome at all. I just connect my laptop to the HDTV via HDMI cable and it becomes a super smart TV acting as a second PC monitor to play everything you can play on your laptop. You don't need any smart TV or any of the other stuff you listed. All I needed to purchase was an HDMI cable. For a remote, a wireless mouse works better than the standard TV infrared remotes for over 90% of what it needed. For the rest you just use your laptop keyboard to get the content you desire.
Don't have a laptop, a PC will work just as well.

My preference is with Android based media players which is an open platform (Eg: Minix) compared with either Apple TV or Roku. Having access to a browser is also useful. If Roku could/can run Kobe it would help their cause as I think Kobe is a fantastic source of a wide variety of entertainment..

I have NO cable, just rabbit ears. I like the PVR function, so I tested out many configurations. The one that works best for me is still a windows based OS running media center. That is for my regular stuff. So I use a mini PC where you are able to get good processing power( you can go i series intel ). It seems that media center will be around integrated with the xbox.

I have for a long time been grappling with android based systems, I understand that there have been improvements in the system but whether it be hardware or software, there seems to be something missing.

Its about friken time the Roku 4 has arrived...I waited about 4 years until I could properly play DSLR video clips in full quality on my TV. They would stutter on a PC, on my 2011 MacBook Pro...and finally they play smooth as butta...the video footage is also amazing compared to today's smart phones, point and shoot and go pro's.

Wow...can't believe it took me this long shooting it....

P.S. last time I checked Roku 4 is still not officially available in Canada, so I got it off amazon. I don't really care about the 4k, however the new processor is worth it

I just use it mainly for YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo, and some other available indie flick apps plus my videos from Raid external drive. I barely watch actual TV programs..also have old computers because of the smartphone, so hooking it up to TV and turnung it in on will take a while. I need it available right then bang bang...although I have been waiting for the right value PC to come out.
