Hi Guys/Girls,

Hoping someone may have an answer for this.

I have the Vantec and WD500 combo, every so often the SA8300 will not see the available space (It goes from 16% to 76% and I can't access the recording on the ext drive ). However, when I turn off the power of the ext drive., the 8300 will tell me I shouldn't be doing that and ask me to reboot in order to use the ext. drive again. This has been going on since day 1 (two weeks ago) and I have tried a few things like unplug and plug the cable, reseat the hard drive. After I reboot the SA8300, it will work again for a day or two.

To avoid problems with Ext HDDs you have to follow proper procedures in shutting them down. Usually you use the 'safely disable device' button' or you have to correctly 'unmount the disk'. Just killing the power can lead to problems where you can't access the drive.
