Wasn't the outage nostalgic? Harking back to the days when there were no internet , no debit cards and I-phones, it was great!
Was funny to see Eaton centre packed with people trying to get WIFI at cafes and stores that do not use Rogers.

I didn't know how long outage would last, so first thing I did in the morning was to head to ATM and withdrew $200 cash

Noticed Rogers was out yesterday at breakfast, reboot our end to no success.
So fire up back up DSL ISP we have not killed off yet since some issues still linger getting all services working on Rogers, even after having them for three months.

Went swimming at city pool at 8:30am. Came out a bit before 9:30 and lobby was full of folks pecking on laptops on every surface, waiting for the library, which was just opening up.

Grocery shopped, then LCBO to get our weekend supplies and all the signs were popping up 'cash and credit only'

You can bet that coffee shops and restaurants that a lot of folks use their debit at were having a slow day.
We put it almost all purchases over $10 on CTC Mastercard, and spin out a whack of CTC money that we use regularly to buy household supplies

Ever since the blackout in 2003 I have made it a habit to always have at least $400 or so in a cash stash at the house.

Indeed it was, I found myself reading a book in the evening, which made me think of all the stuff I used to do back in the day when I wasn't glued to the monitor.

I have two phones from different carriers and while my home internet and one cell are Rogers, my other phone and trailer internet are not, so I was not actually down except for when I was driving which didn’t matter because who needs internet when they are driving. My main concern was if there was an accident, so I brought my work phone. Which normally I leave at home when I go to the trailer. Got to the trailer, went fishing and kayaking. Had a monster bass on but of course, it got away 😉🙃

I keep cash on hand at the house at all times. Probably in an amount more then I should. I keep enough food to last a few months. Which sucks when we have a power outage like we did during that storm a few weeks back. Power was out for over 2 days so had to restock that but even then, we were good. Had food, board games, cards, but I remember people going to their cars to charge their cells.

This is just a good example to try to always be prepared for at least a couple of days without power, internet, cell phone etc. It was also the blackout of 2003 that taught to be ready

I always keep at least $100 in my wallet at all times and I still have a phone land line. I had to call a friend who has bell for internet and phone, to google up something for me.
