I remember that WS, it was the year I started following the Expos. John Boccabellaaaaaaa!
Willie Stargell vied for the HR lead with Hank Aaron all year but hit a pittance in the WS. The Pirates beat the Orioles twice coming back from a 1-3 deficit. Stargell started just as badly in 79 but found his stroke by game 5. The Big Mon lead a clean life and hit .342 at the age of 37. He was a role model to his community and baseball in general, selflessly devoting his time to charities.
A case can be made that he was the Jean Beliveau of baseball.
