I remember that WS, it was the year I started following the Expos. John Boccabellaaaaaaa!

Willie Stargell vied for the HR lead with Hank Aaron all year but hit a pittance in the WS. The Pirates beat the Orioles twice coming back from a 1-3 deficit. Stargell started just as badly in 79 but found his stroke by game 5. The Big Mon lead a clean life and hit .342 at the age of 37. He was a role model to his community and baseball in general, selflessly devoting his time to charities.

A case can be made that he was the Jean Beliveau of baseball.

On pretty much all polls, Clemente's arm is rated #1.

Ex Jay , Jesse Barfield and Ichiro Suzuki are usually rated right after Clemente.

One of the highlights of my sports watching career was seeing Clemente play in a game in Pittsburgh in the '60s. The highlight of that game was seeing his throw to home to get a player who tagged up at third.

He was before my time but I heard he played at old Forbes Field where home runs die in centre field. He also seem to have a stiff neck when batting.
