Rob Ford was subject of August police alert

CBC News Posted: Nov 22, 2013 5:45 PM ET| Last Updated: Nov 22, 2013 6:07 PM ET

Toronto police issued a city-wide alert for Rob Ford's SUV on Aug. 29 after witnesses called police with concerns about the Toronto mayor's fitness to drive, CBC News has learned.

The calls to police came in response to Ford's behaviour at a barbecue attended by Prime Minister Stephen Harper at Sunnybrook Park.

CBC News has learned that when Ford got behind the wheel to leave the event, his departure set off a series of calls to a police dispatcher.

On that evening, the mayor became the focus of a city-wide police alert, with patrol cars ordered to keep a lookout for his vehicle.

Ford had attended the barbecue hoping to speak with Harper to about getting federal money for the Scarborough subway. That meeting never happened.

Later in the evening, police spotted Ford's vehicle in the parking lot of the Grand Hotel & Suites at 225 Jarvis St., where Ford was staying. CBC News has learned that a police sergeant spoke to Ford inside a hotel room and told the mayor that police had been looking for his vehicle and told him why.

Ford was not charged in the incident and it appears the investigation did not proceed further.

Members of council have raised concerns recently about Ford's drinking and Ford himself admitted recently he has driven after drinking alcohol.

That statement came after Ford admitted earlier this month that he has smoked crack cocaine while serving as mayor.

That admission set off a whirlwind few weeks for Ford who was stripped of much of his powers and office budget by city council.

Court documents have revealed that for much of the summer Ford and his friend and occasional driver Alexander (Sandro) Lisi were under police surveillance. Lisi is now facing extortion and drug trafficking charges.

CBC News has learned that police surveillance teams were not watching Ford on the night of the Aug. 29 barbecue
.

Yes folks, Robbie was the subject of an intensive manhunt, a city-wide dragnet, an APB.

What was not reported here though is that a witness observed good ole' Robbie sitting in his Escalade waiting for someone, something. That someone, unknown as of yet, walked up to his vehicle and gave him a package. He then was discovered by a TPS Sgt. in a room at the Grand.

Funny how he gets drunk, takes off in his Escalade and somehow finds himself in a hotel room in downtown Toronto.

Any guesses?

A few points: This is past tense police are not currently looking for him.

"Police looking for you" generally has a far more severe implications than police are attempting to locate you (which is what was actually going on).

"Ford himself admitted recently he has driven after drinking alcohol." Driving after drinking alcohol is not a criminal offense - it is being intoxicated/impaired that is a violation of the criminal law.

He is currently(current tense) still under investigation by the TPS.

Ford conveniently 'lost; his cellphone months ago, which allegedly contained 'videos'.

Ford conveniently had packages repeatedly placed in his vehicle by an alleged drug dealer under the watchful yet very discriminating eyes of seasoned detectives.

Ford conveniently had dozens upon dozens of cell phone communications with Mr. Lisi who is charged with, well ..... threatening death in regards to obtaining the video.

Ford conveniently was video recorded threatening to kill a low level 'bird' ..... a low level 'bird' was murdered.

So yes, I would have to say the TPS 'are actively looking for him.'

did they test him to see if he was wasted?....no, they kissed his ass and asked him to stay at the hotel doing lines with the hooker, but try not to kill any pedestrians with your SUV. ... and thanks for the raise in our last contract :)

If he was behind the wheel at the time you might have a point. But the article states he was in a hotel room and it was some time afterward when they spoke with him, hence (even if he was obviously intoxicated), you don't.
