An east Toronto park will fill with Rob Ford supporters tonight for the Toronto mayor's annual Ford Fest bash.

But unlike previous editions, the 19th anniversary of the party will not feature any alcohol after organizers' liquor licence application was turned down.

Ford insists those who attend Friday night's barbecue at Thomson Memorial Park will enjoy the event even if they can't have a drink.

City officials approved a permit for the party despite concerns from Ford opponents that it's a campaign event that violates municipal rules banning politicking in public parks. More than 100 citizens have filed complaints about Ford Fest.

In the 2010 municipal election, the mayor declared the food and drink at Ford Fest as campaign expenses

City spokeswoman Jackie DeSouza told CBC News the mayor's office has been warned there can be no campaigning at Ford Fest.

"If anything happens that is in violation of the permit that was given for this event, [bylaw officers] can step in and enforce the permit," she said.

Ford Fest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET.

Guess you are not going to be one of 10,000 people expected there.
Wow, I didn't think there were that many starving homeless people looking for handouts. Still 0.4% of the city population looking for handouts isn't bad.

This time, just reading the press reports, the turn out was even bigger than last year.

The other interesting note is the participants were much more supportive, more than ever.

Rob Ford is back. Ford Nation lives.

Win or lose in October, Ford Nation will not go away.

That's certainly true; You can always get a crowd with food, booze, group hugs and cheers. Look at the Leafs. The unthoughtful bottom of the class will always be there.

But Ford himself will go away eventually and remove the embarrassment of feeling loyal to a drunken drug addicted do-nothing liar because he claims to be as average as they. It is sad though to hear them chant their, 'what you see is what you get,' profession of determined and willful blindness. Because they clearly do not see what they got.

It's sorta like a kid going, 'Nyah, nyah try and stop me' when he's yet again on the edge of disaster and still can't balance his bike worth shit.

That does not explain the long line up to have his picture taken with his worship.

Olivia Chow? John Tory? Who's kidding who.

Doug Ford is gonna run a stealth campaign. The Ford camp says some bombastic stuff for the press, which they obviously will report. Then work on the campaign on the base, get the base out to vote.

I knew someone who went to Ford Fest last year, and my reliable source I spoke to this weekend, said they did not want to go this year.

My reliable source thought the turnout was going to be massive, it was quite large last year, and this year all indication was it was bigger.

They started lining up for stuff one to two hours before the scheduled time.

Tory should throw political rally, in his neighbourhood, Rosedale Park.

Make it a Grey Poupon give-away. That will bring out the unwashed masses to Rosedale. Better get some extra police out, and the mounted division. Sarah Thomspon will feel right at home. Proabbably because she is right at home at the Rosedale Park Grey Poupon party.
