I get around.
Making a public announcement about it will put pressure on him to keep his commitment.
How tall is Ford? He looks like he's only 5'9'' or so. Three hundred and thirty on a 5"9' frame is pretty bad.
Yeah 50 pounds would be a good start, and I agree, he should have just got started on the diet and waited for people to notice and maybe ask him about it. Making a big announcement could result in him dropping the weight and then once that's done, rebounding and gaining back even more.
Doug Ford has said he's a vegetarian but eats chicken. What vegetable group is the chicken from?
As a vegetarian this gives me one more reason to hate mock and ridicule him.
It's not easy, but it can be done.
They should have Harvey Brooker come down there to get them on his program. It seems to work.
My brother lost over 70 lbs via Harvey Brooker program and has kept it off.

They're also encouraging people to pledge money to the charity of their choice.

The Star makes me laugh. They can't report on anything relating to the Fords without getting a dig in somewhere. They end the article with:

"I understand that the mayor wants to lose weight and that’s great for health, but I think our children’s future is a little bit more important than his concern about his losing weight. Our priorities are a little bit messed up here,” said Christina Gilligan of the Mothers’ Task Force on Child Care."

He needs to loose like 150 pounds, if you ask me. He has to lay off those donuts but I know he can't because there irresistable. Here is an idea Rob Ford, ride a bike to work everyday because you drive around like a fat slob in your car. And you might what to add wider bike lanes for your fat ass to get through the lanes. :eyebrows:

He wants to lose 50 pounds. For the second time in a week, I find myself saying, good for him! (What's the world coming to.)

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1116253--mayor-rob-ford-weighs-330-pounds-wants-to-lose-50?bn=1
At 330 - he needs to lose way more than 50 pounds.

Even if he lost a buck, he'd still be 230 - which for a guy as short as him is still too heavy.

Anyway, all the best to him. He is certainly setting himself up in the public eye on this one.

Or maybe he's just using the first 50 as a milestone.

For something like this, that requires a lifestyle change, it's best to take your time, taking baby steps, figuring out what works and what doesn't for your particular situation.

There is no universal solution, other than the general guidelines of diet, exercise, and persistence.

If Rob Ford is 5'9 the target weight is 157lbs that means he needs to lose 173lbs and that is the target weight for a 6'1 man. These are targets a person's bone structure can allow for approximately 15 extra pounds.

At 5'3 my target is 139, I was that in grade 9. In university 190 but I was involved in sports that I needed bulk. What I didn't realize then was the impact it would have later. At 30, I had a physical done and my cholesterol and trigylcerides were alittle high. I get a call from the doctor in the evening when does that happen? She says, I need to see asap and has referred me to a cardiologist and dietician. I ask what is high and what should they be? cholesterol was 28 & trigylcerides 26, they should be 4 & 6.

I was startled because I was still participating in recreational level sports and very active. At any rate with the supervision of the dietician, I learned a great deal about food and how to use it to my advantage.
Cold turkey, I had to eliminate alcohol and soda pop, drink skim milk, measure servings of all carbs. The carbs in food were my downfall, I was then allowed 10 servings of carbs per day.
1 piece of bread was 2 servings, one sandwich for lunch was 4.

I did all of it cold turkey and learned about other foods and snacks, and to eat small portions 4-6 times daily. I stopped lifting weights during this period and took up long walks 5-10k daily with the dog, then I started jogging and climbing the escarpment stairs eventually I did some 5-10k road races just to challenge myself. 90 days into this I was 142lbs, but I felt weight too light, so in discussions with the cardiologist, dietician and GP, they asked what I thought would feel comfortable and 160 was fantastic for me. I've fluctuated too high a couple of times, and presently 164 and feel great. I'm a 33 waist (34) 15.5 neck down from 17 and content. In 2009, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and yes I have a cpap but no-longer require it as per the specialist. I use breathe right strips and all is good. I see the specialist bi-annually and do the sleep test and all has been well for a year now. The specialist said use the machine as required. Initially I had a crummy headset that bothered me terribly, but I found a great one like airforce pilots use and there's nothing about the nose, all fastenings are in the rear.

I recall having some ladies to my humble abode and they noticed the cpap, asked what it was and asked me to wear it while doing them doggy! TOP GUN or Darth Vader. Just imagine a woman screaming bang me harder Darth Vader!

Anyway, that's the long-winded story! Rob Ford isn't healthy and the stress of being mayor of the largest city in our country can't help either. I don't like his methods but I'd hate to see him croke because of bad health.

The Ford Brothers: 600 hundred pounds of fun! They are also helping the city's workers and their children lose weight by taking away their jobs and the food off their table. Fun? WOW!!

Considering this:

As reported in the G&M Life Section today 2/3 of Canadians are overweight.
Wow, killing two birds with one stone. Rob Ford is smarter than I thought!

Rob Ford should invite them over to his house to eat his food, since he's not eating as much. Yeah right!

This is such a "feel good story" about Robbie Ford. What a ploy. "Look guys and gals, I'm not the fat-fuck, bullying, service cutting, city-destroying, abusive, 911 calling fool, lying, giving motorists the 'bird', bad-joke that I'm made out to be."

"There will a webpage devoted to my progress. Once a week I will have a weigh-in. Yes once a week you will be able to see me and how I am such a wonderful, vulnerable and ordinary person. I will have all the media involved, probably not the Star though."

"Bring your children, your grandparents, pets. Tell your friends, your neighbors."

Robbie's very own reality show!

Yeah, Anbarandy, of course he's a politician, so he's probably trying to rehabilitate his image. It's still not a bad thing.

I agree it's stupid, but it's just as stupid as the (many) vegetarians that still eat fish.
Probably because referring to oneself as a piscatarian would be seen as either confusing or pretentious.
Or maybe he's just using the first 50 as a milestone.
Or maybe he found out there's a weight limit for the giant ferris wheel he wants to build. I have to say that it would be really embarrassing to have that grotesquely overweight mayor to launch the Pan Am Games in 2015. And unlike fast-tracking the Portlands development, corporate sponsorship for public transit, and promising to end the 'gravy train', his plan to lose 50 pounds has at least a chance of success.

Good for Fordsy. Most of you guys on here would be unable to go public.

As for Robbie..his mark is 50 lbs in 6 months...maybe more later..who knows.

And to the naysayers...we expect our people to be leaders..do good things... Good for Fordsy!

Yeah how many people ride their bike in the weather we just had? Not too many. Easier said than done. He needs to lose about 150 but I give him props for starting somewhere.

Agreed. He should be able to drop 50 by having a good dump. :)

Seriously though, he "non-goal" of 50 pounds isn't much on a 330# frame. And he needs some guidance. Walking a bit, lifting a few weights, and cutting out late night ice-cream isn't a plan that will get him the results he wants.

This is a golden opportunity for a diet/fitness counsellor to make hay by offering his/her services to the Ford boys. Otherwise, they are likely doomed and might well drop dead of heart attacks if they decide to go for a jog. I imagine he has tried with similar "non-plans" in the past, which is why he now weighs about twice what he should.

All the same, good on them for going public. But they need professional help if they want to have any hope of success with meaningful weight loss.
