If Rob Ford is 5'9 the target weight is 157lbs that means he needs to lose 173lbs and that is the target weight for a 6'1 man. These are targets a person's bone structure can allow for approximately 15 extra pounds.
At 5'3 my target is 139, I was that in grade 9. In university 190 but I was involved in sports that I needed bulk. What I didn't realize then was the impact it would have later. At 30, I had a physical done and my cholesterol and trigylcerides were alittle high. I get a call from the doctor in the evening when does that happen? She says, I need to see asap and has referred me to a cardiologist and dietician. I ask what is high and what should they be? cholesterol was 28 & trigylcerides 26, they should be 4 & 6.
I was startled because I was still participating in recreational level sports and very active. At any rate with the supervision of the dietician, I learned a great deal about food and how to use it to my advantage.
Cold turkey, I had to eliminate alcohol and soda pop, drink skim milk, measure servings of all carbs. The carbs in food were my downfall, I was then allowed 10 servings of carbs per day.
1 piece of bread was 2 servings, one sandwich for lunch was 4.
I did all of it cold turkey and learned about other foods and snacks, and to eat small portions 4-6 times daily. I stopped lifting weights during this period and took up long walks 5-10k daily with the dog, then I started jogging and climbing the escarpment stairs eventually I did some 5-10k road races just to challenge myself. 90 days into this I was 142lbs, but I felt weight too light, so in discussions with the cardiologist, dietician and GP, they asked what I thought would feel comfortable and 160 was fantastic for me. I've fluctuated too high a couple of times, and presently 164 and feel great. I'm a 33 waist (34) 15.5 neck down from 17 and content. In 2009, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and yes I have a cpap but no-longer require it as per the specialist. I use breathe right strips and all is good. I see the specialist bi-annually and do the sleep test and all has been well for a year now. The specialist said use the machine as required. Initially I had a crummy headset that bothered me terribly, but I found a great one like airforce pilots use and there's nothing about the nose, all fastenings are in the rear.
I recall having some ladies to my humble abode and they noticed the cpap, asked what it was and asked me to wear it while doing them doggy! TOP GUN or Darth Vader. Just imagine a woman screaming bang me harder Darth Vader!
Anyway, that's the long-winded story! Rob Ford isn't healthy and the stress of being mayor of the largest city in our country can't help either. I don't like his methods but I'd hate to see him croke because of bad health.
