Hey,
Wasnt sure who to turn to for advice... Thought I'd pick your brains...

I bought a product from this website... http://www.acekard.ca/ ... based here in Toronto.

Spent about $150

They did a pre-sale of this product toting that it could do all these wondrous things... then, 3 days before shipping, they (with out notifying all of us who purchased it) changed the product description completly and it no longer does what it was originally advertised to do.

I wrote in through my account to cancel my order... it was ignored and shipped to me. They wont answer there phone or return emails of messages. So I mailed the item back to them with a letter explaining why it was being returned and that I expected a full refund.

They accepted the item through the post office (I have the details) but did not respond and did not issues a refund...

So now they have the product, and my money...

What the heck should I do? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Do a google search for "Consumer and corporate affairs Ontario" and check out what it has to say about your rights, and how to file a complaint.

I called the credit card company and they had an email for the business different then the one made available on the website. So I sent one last request threatening to contact the Ontario Better Business Bureau... Received an email apology and full refund an hour later. Thanks for your help!!!

I used online vendors for 2 items that I couldn't get in Canada. One vendor in the U.S. and one in China. Used credit for the U.S. and PayPal for China. Both worked out fine except the China vendor shipped the wrong model which I had to return at my own expense before shipping me the right model.

Beware of this scam. Someone asked for my advice about an ad they put on Auto Trader to sell a car. Basically, the sales prospect agreed to buy the car and to wire the money to their paypal account, but since he was out of the country and buying it as a gift, he would send an agent to pick the car up. Thing is, he later said he sent an extra $1000 for the agent, and that the vendor was to wire $1000 to reimburse him. The purchaser claimed he was a petroleum engineer offshore. He said that the $1000 should be wired via Western Union to Nigeria. As soon as I heard Nigeria, I told whoever not to do such thing, particularly since they never agreed to this mode of payment or method.

The vendor did receive a paypal email confirming that the price of the car for sale plus $1000 was received, but that it also gave FBI warnings that their account would be flagged if the deal was not consummated as stipulated (to send $1000 to that other account). I told whoever that the FBI wouldn't have jurisdiction in Canada anyways, and that the warning sounded like a scare tactic.

In any event, the vendor called paypal who confirmed that they did not receive any money in their own, bona fide account.

This also happened when they used Kijiji. Some unsuspecting people are bullied or tricked into these kind of scams I guess, otherwise, the frauds would stop.
