Say hey. RIP. Probably the finest player of his time, more durable than Mantle, flashier than Aaron. One of the few players who started and closed out his career in the same city. He started with the New York Giants and finished with the New York Mets. He played the majority of his career in San Francisco. Candlestick Park was cold and the pits for baseball, but he was the best player to ever play there.

Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier allowing Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Willie Stargell, Dave Parker, Dave Foster, Dave Winfield, Joe Morgan, Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson, Darrel Strawberry and several blacks to shine in baseball. Sadly, black Americans have virtually disappeared from baseball today. Their place taken by Dominican players because every MLB team has a farm system in the Dominican Republic while development of black Americans has ceased. Meanwhile, Vlad Guerrero Jr. hasnt even bothered to learn to speak English
