Currently Ben Mendelshon is the new Max Von Sydow, an actor who makes everything he's in better. RIP, King of the Swedes.

Agreed. I remember it well. I have used those same words of warning to people over the years.
I'm curious to know what your opinion of The Outsider is.
To me in fell short of my expectations.
I found it to be a tauter horror thriller than Castle Rock. The later had too much religious allegory for my taste, the mood was too grim and oppressive - I lost interest.
I may have passed on this if Mendloshon and Paddy Consodine weren't in it. I have to give props to Mark Menchaca, Jack Hoskins was such an asshole that no one noticed when the shape-shifter turned him into an acolyte. The scene where he's ambushed by the apparition of his evil mother is one of the scariest ever in a series. I can see where it fell short of expectations, the ending was telegraphed - nothing wrong with anything that went on before.
