"Sheeny Shiny Hymietown" NYC is the first thing that came to my mind when I read the above, no matter what good he did for the black community in his life.

How can peaceful basic human rights & respect be polarizing????
In his early years Jackson was openly antisemitic, and had other polarizing viewpoints, which he did not hesitate to share publicly...

He later espoused his support for a "Rainbow Coalition", and was one off the first politicians to include gays in his ideal society. I imagine that offended many hard-right conservatives.

Rest in peace.
He did impact civil right for African Americans in a big way.
An although some of his comments about the Jewish community early on were anti-semitic, I think towards the end, he had course corrected.

Not that his public change of heart/attitude towards Jews was motivated for political gain, or anything like that, right? :cool:

That said, he did do a lot for African Americans, so full credit for that! (y)
