In his early years Jackson was openly antisemitic, and had other polarizing viewpoints, which he did not hesitate to share publicly...
He later espoused his support for a "Rainbow Coalition", and was one off the first politicians to include gays in his ideal society. I imagine that offended many hard-right conservatives.
Still a significant figure even with the controversies - how did I miss this ?!?!? Been listening to the news from time to time today!

He did impact civil right for African Americans in a big way.
An although some of his comments about the Jewish community early on were anti-semitic, I think towards the end, he had course corrected.

Not that his public change of heart/attitude towards Jews was motivated for political gain, or anything like that, right?
That said, he did do a lot for African Americans, so full credit for that!
