The man most responsible for making football the world's most popular sport, Alfredo di Stefano has died at the age of 88. A truly global man representing Argentina, Colombia and Spain at the international level and winning 5 successive Champions Cups with Real Madrid. Truly a magnificent life.

I knew it was coming.

Sr. Di Stefano was elderly of age but it still stunned me.

A great one gone.

I am too young to have seen him play but he is the symbol for Real Madrid and an absolute legend of the game. Wish there was more footage of the old football greats.

Had the Superga Air Crash not happened Don Di Stefano would have had a rival in Valentino Mazzola. During a friendly between Italy and Hungary, Ferenc Puskas (Team mate of Di Stefano at RM) made sure he exchanged strips with VM. He's always considered him the equal of Di Stefano.
