I have always heard that the people that have money are the ones that are careful and the ones that show off end up poor. What is your experience???

whoever feels that way, is indeed poor, young and/or out of touch with either how wealthy someone is, and or how many different things the rich person throws their money around at.

idiots, but rich idiots. actually, one thing about wealthy people as described in the millionaire next door is that the ultra wealthy are FAST descision makers. they know how much their time is worth. and it's worth more than the odd bad descision.

Simplistic way of thinking.
It is too simplistic to say that people that genralize about things are idiots. There is anecdotal evidence that suggest that people who are careful with their money will have more opportunity in the future and have more options at hand then those that wildly spend their money. I ask this question so that I can understand and appreciate the circumstances and not the person specificly so that I can use this knowledge to my own benifiet. I think that sometimes you have to be very careful in lif, and even if you understand, appreciate and respect people. Sometimes they do not respond in kind. In extreme circumstances there are sociopathic people that will look for those like you who understand, respect and appreciate them so that they can use and abuse you before they leave you in the cold beaten and robbed.
In my own experience i have not been careful with my money in the past and now I have learned that there has to be moderation and preperation for the future and opportunities that may appear on the horizon.

Wealth is nothing if you have no one to share it with.
As for me I spend based on need and want...........needs outweigh wants. By most standards I do better then most. Yet I enjoy being debt free.

It's all in the budget + discipline.. If you spend or save without any idea of what your destination is and how you will get there you will fail. Fail to plan...plan to fail.

I have found people who are rich from their own work/saving have a tendency to live within their means. The ones that inherit wealth or have sudden windfalls like lottery tickets usually deplete their wealth relatively quickly.
One other observation, wealthy neighbourhoods donate less than middle class neighbourhoods. If you look at per cent income, people living close to the poverty line tend to be more generous as a percentage of income.

Go and read the book by J. Thomas Stanley, "The Millionaire Mind." He interviews 1,000 millionaires across the USA, and I'm not talking about fuckheads like Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton. These are self-made people. The general consensus is that the wealthy are FRUGAL. They'd rather repair old shoes than buy new ones. The are always looking for opportunities to make more money. They live below their means, but they do enjoy life, just not excessively. They drive cars that are are not flashy. In order to save money, they would move into a good neighbourhood with quality public schools to send their kids, as opposed to paying for a private school. Overall, they see money as a means to make more money.
The people that flash money around generally have little. Often it's because they have low self-esteem or lots of insecurities. Just goto the strip bars and you'll see the biggest fucking losers flashing the little money they have to try to impress the strippers. And of course, they're not impressed.

Sorry but I know some pretty rich people that like to throw money around. I don't think anyone here has any actual statistics, it's just a lot of anecdotes.
