I have this Rum bottle that I got from the Caribbean.

I like to remove the label from the bottle without breaking, ripping or cause to much damage to the label.
I like to have it as a wallpaper on my computer.
any one know or have any ideas how to do this?

I search the net for an image no luck.

Thanks.

In the olden days of water-based glues a long (sometimes overnight) soaking in the sink would float the label off. Still worth a try, especially as a Caribbean distiller may not be using the latest bottling technology.

Once you're into more modern, solvent-based glues, it's a lot more hit and miss, but some of them soften with heat—try a hairdryer—and some with mineral spirits/Varsol™. More volatile solvents like acetone/nail-polish remover may work, but you're getting into glue-sniffing dangers w/ them. Contact cement cleaner from the hardware store applied from an oil can has been good for me. For any of these the technique is to lift a corner while applying the whatever and slowly, ever so slowly peel it back as the glue softens.

Or gently break the bottle under a towel and crush the label area flat enough to scan.

get yourself a clear peice of pressure sensitive label stock(business depot) cut the label stock to a size about a quarter inch bigger then the label.here is the most important part, drink the contents of the bottle, then peel the backer of the label stock and place it on the label as smooth and carefully as possible.Fill the bottle with hot water let sit of about 5 minute, repeat 3 or 4 times.now carefully peel the label stock and the label of the bottle at the same time. If the label is glue using a water base glue it with come off easy if it is a rubber base glue the hot water will soften up.now cut another piece of label stock and put it as smooth as possible on the back side of the label, squeeze out all the air and trim it to the size of the label. Now it is like it has been laminate for protection.

Just a word of caution when using solvents: many inks used in printing the label are solvent based and could be desolved while trying to remove it.

If it's water based you're good to go, I remember the days when you have a cooler full of beer and by 5 oclock all the labels were starting to fall off....that's the first thing I'd try, soaking it in water over night....

But if the only reason is you want to use it as wallpaper, why not just see if the bottler has a website? Or even do a search online? You might find a jpg or a gif of it.....

Maybe -uh- because the jpg won't stick to his computer screen? Duh!

I'd also suggest applying wallpaper sizing to your monitor screen before you attempt to hang the liquor bottle "wallpaper" label on it. There are likely differnt types of "sizing" depending on if your monitor is LCD or CRT.

I made the mistake of applying cooler removed beer bottle labels to wallpaper the beer fridge and they won't come off now!
LOL you're really on a roll today aren't you? but hey, if you were on a danish or a donut that would just be WRONG is so many ways lol
