Remember

SecretRendezvous

Durham's Best Kept Secret
In Flanders’ Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders’ Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders’ Fields.

Yes we should all give thanks and remember those that gave their lives so that we could enjoy all the freedoms that we have. Including this hobby that we all like to particpate in.

Durham's Best Kept Secret
This was a very hard one for me this year. Sunday I went through some of my great grandfathers personal affects and he was a vet. He served in WW2. We saw death announcements that he had from friends or relatives that were so old. Letters from my great grandmother to her husband who was off fighting in the war. The paper almost crumbles in your hand. Plus we looked over his medals and service credentials. It was nice to remember, but emotional as well. I loved my gr-grandfather very much. My gr-grandparents were my grandparental figure in my life, and their passings were very hard. They lived such long lives, into their 80's & 90's and I remember when I was younger, I thought they would live forever. Lord knows I wanted them too.

So to all those who gave just a breif moment yesterday to honor and remember people like my great grandfather, thank you. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. It does mean alot to those of us who have family and friends as vets, past and present.

I have an odd way of remembering our vets, and honour my great grandfather. He served in both world wars, and every year on Remembrance day, I go to the firing range and shoot the Ross rifle he used during the first war. I don't know why, but shooting that old rifle makes me appreciate the hell our vets went through.
