Apparently the Robbers were high on meth and got freaked out:

Never underestimate the power of a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger - even if he's only four years old.
Stevie Long of Durham, North Carolina, thwarted an armed robbery attempt by attacking the robber dressed as a Power Ranger.
Long had snuck out of the room while a robber was pointing a gun at his five-year-old sister Mary and his mom Jennifer.
Minutes later, he leapt back into the room dressed as a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, reports the News and Observer. "Get away from my family," he shouted, swinging his plastic sword and shouting "yah, yah."
The crooks got away with some credit cards, jewelry and cash, but abandoned plans to take mom to the cash machine.
Those crooks morphed into Cowardly Lions.
