Re-licensing installed Windows XP laptop

Okay I installed XP and put in a license and it was the incorrect one, now I have XP on here and everytime I try to update or anything I get a windows validation error. I did find the original license on this laptop on a sticker on the underside of it. Is there a way I can change the license key so I can get the updates and get rid of the stupid validation messages?

when you get the validation message there's a link to click "resolve now" or the like ..... follow that and I'm pretty sure it allows you to enter the correct key

OR you can just go to Microsoft's site and you should be able to find what you need there. All they're looking for is for you to either buy it or provide a valid code if you have one.

I screwed up though, I installed a XP pro on the laptop and the license key is for XP home, and the key isn't taking. I guess I need to reinstall or figure something else out.
