Hi Folks. While surfing some porn I got dinged with this virus.Froze my system completely.I did a hard shutdown and logged back in.With that, my system seemed to be okay.Which to be honest I found a bit odd.....I was expecting a dog fight to get this virus off my system. The only thing i can think of is that it had something to do with me being in"incognito mode" via Chrome. I've done a full scan with Microsoft security essentials and nothing came up.Also did a run through with CC cleaner.System is not sluggish and seems to be working fine.Could it be possible it is still dormant?
One note, the site looked VERY authentic.the only thing they had off was the location(a province over). Here's the CBC report on it.

Microsoft security essentials is NOT rated very highly.

Free Avast or Norton if you want to pay, are both rated better.

Thanks Woody.I downloaded Avast and did a full scan. The results were I have 4 infections of Win32:Rootkit-gen.I did a bit of research on this, and everything came back from "this is not so bad" to "this is fucking awful and you'll have a shitty time getting rid of it".In lay mens terms, what can this virus exactly do and should I deal with by simply"Move to chest" as AVAST suggests?

Just contain or remove it, whatever Avast calls for. Since I mainly use Linux and seldom use Windows anymore, I forget.....:biggrin1:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, is also something you should have and run weekly or whenever you suspect something is out of the ordinary. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is top rated and free also.

Check under Startup for any rogue apps that start with Windows.

Run msconfig, it's a system tool.
