years and years ago, there was a rapist working the Annex. He was caught by a passerby in the act in a nearby parking garage. I used to hang out in a nearby pub and word spread that the rapist had been caught and i went to gawk. As this good samaritan was being interviewed by the cops in their car, another police vehicle arrived and a female police officer got out, ran to the other car, hauled the guy out and started beating on him. She was the rape crisis officer and this was her third call and she lost it and thought the good guy was the rapist, who was being kept in a different car.
Outrage can lead to stupid but understandable reactions. The good guy waived charges and though nameless to me, remains one of the few true heroes I've ever met
