George "Sparky" Anderson passed away on Thursday. Sparky managed both the Reds and the Tigers to World Series championships. He was a very humble man, a wonderful manager and always had a soft spot for Toronto (and Canada). Sparky was 76. He will be missed.

I have a vague memory of Sparky, when he played for Toronto, having to take over the piching duties when Toronto had run through the pitching roster. Sparky , I think normally played third, with Rocky Nelson on first. Can anyone confirm this memoryÉ

The media reported him to be 76. I was shocked. I thought he was 76 twenty years ago.

In my opinion, he managed the best Major League Baseball team of all time when he managed the " Big Red Machine ' in the mid 70's. A team that consisted of Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, David Conception, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, George Foster, Ken Griffey Sr. I would rate this team as the #1 team of all time.
