R.I.P - Jam Master Jay

I was quite surprised that it hadn't been mentioned yet. Run DMC are the Godfathers of Hip Hop and Jam Master Jay is one of the best DJ's to ever spin a record. They proved that Rap is for everyone and empowered those who listened to them. Not only was he a great performer but was a good man too. RUN DMC constantly gave back to the community and spread positive messages in their music unlike most Hip hop or even rock for that matter.

Unlike other artists that have died in the past few years, this is truely sad because this is a positive and giving person. The others have died to to living a life a excess or of self loathing.

I heard about it briefly on the news today, unfortunately I was too busy to tune in and get all the details. All I heard was that he had been shot. Does anyone have additional info??

This is a sad day. I usually don't care for today's hip-hop. Its usually just all bling-bling lyrics and oversampled loops. Puff Daddy, Ja Rule, and the whole Murder Inc. crew are garbage.

RUN DMC were the innovators of hip hop with the guitars and hard beats when most hip-hop artists were using disco and electro-funk beats back in the day. Run DMC's "kings of Rock" album is arguably the greatest hip-hop album ever made.
