Okay, here goes.

1) n_v is (half) right: It pays to be a small nation in the middle of Europe. Luxembourg enjoys a pc GDP $55,100 compared with the US's $37,800 - a difference of nearly 20,000 dollars! Close behind is Norway with $37,700. Canada ranks 12th with $29,700.

2) n_v is right again: Minnesota and DC both voted for Mondale.

3) Score one for red! Booth used a one-shot derringer to kill Lincoln. He used his knife to slash one of Lincoln's companions before jumping from the balcony onto the stage of Ford's theater, breaking his leg.

4) Oswald's cryptonym was GPFLOOR, for no discernable reason. Castro's makes a little more sense: AMTHUG.

5) Give one to Goober - Truman's middle name was indeed S. It was a compromise between the first names of his grandfathers, both of whom had names that began with S. Thurmond was able to get just over 1,000,000 rednecks to vote for him - although in the close 1948 election (remember "Dewey defeats Truman!") his votes and Dewey's (who garnered nearly 22 million votes) would not have been able to top Truman's 24 million votes, nor his 303 electoral votes. Strom Thurmond came within a few thousand votes of being the conservative Ralph Nader.
