I don't think the euro civic is coming here (rumour that is wishful thinking) but the current one is going to get an early mid cycle refresh for the 2013 model year... They've been thoroughly called out on the decrease in interior materials, build quality and handling of the current 2012+ generation and are trying to remedy it in very quick fashion.

Elantra's are very good vehicles. We own a Touring and it drives fantastic. Lots of space, great sightlines. Got a 6 year no interest loan for it. Highly recomend

You get a lot more accessories and features on the Elantra compared to the Civic for less dollars.
The car market is a very competitive place these days. Look at the 2013 Venza, they added all sorts of goodies into the package for the same price. The next Civic might get a refreshed interior, boosted horse power extra goodies thrown in to compete. I would wait a few months.

The current Civic was panned by most critics when it came out. Its not what it used to be. Honda is definitely riding on its laurels. I took it for a spin and liked it well enough, so I picked one up for my mom. It's peppy enough, fun to drive, and you certainly don't feel like you're in an economy car.

Didn't like the Elantra so much. It felt more cramped and even though it was better appointed, it didn't feel as quality.

The new Kia Optima looks badass. Might be worth checking out.

Current hyundai's are decent cars, worth a test drive if you're in the market.

Euro version of civic as a replacement for the 2012 civic is a pipe dream. As Powershot said, they're just gonna do a quick refresh - maybe new front grill, new tail lights, nicer interior, that sort of thing.

Significant engine, powertrain, or suspension changes are very unlikely.

There might be the teeniest, tinest chance of a TypeR Civic showing up, but don't hold your breath.

Just traded in my 03 Elantra and picked up a low mileage 08 KIA Rondo. I tried the 2010 and 2011 Elantras, but the 4-cylinder engine handled as sluggishly as my 03. The KIA has a small V6 2.7L and it runs smoothly with great acceleration lots of room and so so mileage.

A co-worker drove me home in her Venza a few weeks ago. I'm really startin to consider a used one as my nex vehicle.
