Question for Mac users

I'm likely to wait a couple months. I've been thus far very happy with OSX "Tiger" and "Panther". very nice stable operating system.

There are a number of features in Leopard that look very appealing such as the "time machine" backup feature which essentially is a versioning system.

Having worked with Leopard Server beta test versions, I must say I'm really very impressed! [ical server anyone?]

There will be a number of quick bug fixes and vulnerability fixes. I am going to wait until January to update.

10.4 is stable, and I am not in a rush to upgrade and be someone's test bed.

New Mac User, but I watched the Apple Video, looked at the what's new etc and can't find a reason to spend the money - But, if I can convince my brother-in-law to upgrade then we will buy the family pack and split it.

Visited the Apple store at Galleria. They said the new OS will debut there friday. A salesman said the only big deal for him was "time machine" and he explained what it did. I said I just use an external HDD to save what I want to backup, it's easier.....he responded he agrees and said he does that to! Other than that he said not that much has really been changed.

I can't believe I went and bought the Leopard. Must be my love of cats.

Some nice eye candy, but the thing that surprises the crap out of me is that the spell checker is on right now as I type this message. Every time I screw up, a red dotted line appears. Very cool for someone like me.

Time machine is a hog when it comes to disk space.

Mail is a very good upgrade.

iCal is beefier, which is great since I really depend upon it.

Downside: no more Classic support. Now I am going to have to boot into OS 9 and convert all my WordPerfect files. shit.

I switched to a Mac Pro tower this summer and have no faults with using the Mac at all.

I won't be switching to leopard right away. I read that Apple switched off about 7-800 off their designers to work on the iphone which meant Leopard was delayed. It also meant that Leopard was not advanced shipped in it's final version soon enough to software vendors like Adobe and Digidesign.

Adobe about a month or so ago posted a caution to users regarding Leopard. Adobe hadn't really had enough time to identify any issues with the new OS. Digidesign is saying the same thing.

From all reports Leopard sounds great and no doubt I'll add it to my system at some point. I'm more interested in knowing the majority of software I use will function without problems before I switch.

Leopard is stable on one of my machines, but is giving me trouble on the other. I should have stuck to my own advice and waited until after Christmas.
