Since a few here seem to enjoy engaging in battles of wit (OK, I'm being generous), I was wondering if you could give us some idea of when a member crosses the line for good. Four members that I've noticed have been banned of late; Lyla, Backdraft, Picky and now apparently Johnny56. I'm assuming they were warned, but what exactly will you, and won't you, tolerate people posting?

Down there....
Yes! Precisely! I have some idea of Lyla's, Picky's, and T. Soprano's offences but I can't recall noteworthy postings by Backdraft or Johnny56 (well perhaps some argument about nothing with Ripped). In fact, I'm still wondering why Hmmm was banned! I'm probably not the only one who thinks that Hmmm took far more abuse on this board than he ever dished out!

Perhaps when a poster is banned you could display an instance or two of "dirty" posting on the member's part!

I can sort of see why Fred wouldn't want to be too specific in what is expected of people. As soon as you do that, witness the accounting scandals in the US, people work diligently at looking for loopholes. Perhaps it's better to have broad general principles and a taste of uncertainty. Posters may be more likely to show a little caution and a little tact in what they say.

That having been said however, I don't agree with the policy of simply wiping out the past. Remove the truly offending posts but, if possible, not all the postings that these people made. That's just a little too Stalinist in my view. Let history live.

Perhaps too, there should be an area listing the banned members. If I hadn't seen this thread, I wouldn't have known that Johnny56 was gone. I share something of his taste in women (Elisa) so I'll miss some of his postings. If I wasn't a member of MBB, I wouldn't have known that Picky had bit the dust. Not the most diplomatic of posters (classic understatement!), but he could be challenging and had some interesting things to say.

I agree that Fred might not want to be too specific in what members can or can't post, and perhaps I over emphasized that in my original post. Still, some parameters would be nice, as well as some explaination why some posts, threads, or members are no more.

Johnny56 sent me a nasty little PM the other night right of the blue [I never had any dealings with or exchanged PMs with him in the past ]. I am not sure what his problem is or whether alcohol was involved on his part - regardless I had no choice but to remove him.
