I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes after a person passes away before their lawyer contacts the individuals who were in the will.

Thanks!

I've always assumed that the Executor had that responsibility... unless there was some type of prior legal action against the deceased.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Is it possible for the deceased to assign more than one Executor?

Anything's possible... but that's usually where the problems begin.
LOL, great. I was told by a family member of the deceased that he had assigned four executors, all of whom are his brothers and I'm the only one in the will who is not part of the family.

Hopefully the deceased had their will done by a lawyer and witnessed. Do you have any idea who the lawyer might be? It wouldn't hurt giving them a call and expressing your concerns.

AMEN! Generally several months and typically a year before probate is completed.

The good doc has an older relative in Toronto who is thinking about hiring a lawyer to write up a will so her descendants cannot fight over anything upon her passing. Anyone who has good lawyers to recommend, please PM. Thanks. :)

To add to this point, in my relatives' cases, they own very little asset, no one contest their will & all paperwork were in order, so no probate.
