If there is already a thread on this I didn't see it, so here are my thoughts.
Thankfully the Quebec Soccer Federation was shamed into retracting the obviously stupid and racist ban, that was really meant to stir the pot yet again, and further divide the federalist English and immigrants from the "pur laine" separatists.
Quebec is probably the most racist province in Canada, and has a long track record of trying to alienate and suppress minorities. I'm sure the turban ban had behind-the-scenes provincial government support.
Recently the word "pasta" was considered offensive on an Italian restaurant's menu in Quebec, and ordered to be removed.
One thing I learned while living there is that it really doesn't matter whether you speak French or not. What matters most is your last name, and if it isn't original New France settler stock French, you're second class at best.
No doubt the French were sinned against in the past and held down by the English minority in the province, and to a certain extent by the Catholic church in Quebec as well, but now Quebec has achieved the goal of being predominately French in provincial government, in business, and in everyday life. It is time for the French to treat others with the respect they were denied.
All races are entitled to the essence of "Je me souviens"!
