Quebec Soccer Federation retracts ban on turban and other religious headgear

If there is already a thread on this I didn't see it, so here are my thoughts.

Thankfully the Quebec Soccer Federation was shamed into retracting the obviously stupid and racist ban, that was really meant to stir the pot yet again, and further divide the federalist English and immigrants from the "pur laine" separatists.

Quebec is probably the most racist province in Canada, and has a long track record of trying to alienate and suppress minorities. I'm sure the turban ban had behind-the-scenes provincial government support.

Recently the word "pasta" was considered offensive on an Italian restaurant's menu in Quebec, and ordered to be removed.

One thing I learned while living there is that it really doesn't matter whether you speak French or not. What matters most is your last name, and if it isn't original New France settler stock French, you're second class at best.

No doubt the French were sinned against in the past and held down by the English minority in the province, and to a certain extent by the Catholic church in Quebec as well, but now Quebec has achieved the goal of being predominately French in provincial government, in business, and in everyday life. It is time for the French to treat others with the respect they were denied.

All races are entitled to the essence of "Je me souviens"!

This was little more than a group of old guard pushing their weight around, but then inevitably backing down when the heavyweights showed up and laid down the law. Not the first time nor will it be the last. Pauline Marois simply showed her true colours one more time. The clarification comment was totally bogus as it is quite clearly written in FIFA rule books. Called it when it first was posted and glad t see saner heads prevailed.

As for the last name horse shit, enough said. You couldn't get more British/anglophone than my last name and I can't remember the last time I was given a hard time by anyone in Quebec. If you go there with a Simon attitude as he regaled in a past thread, expect to get it returned in spades.

That Premier Marois really put her separatist foot in her mouth by trying to support the ban and slagging the Canadian Soccer Federation, only to have the rug pulled out from under her stupid position today....ha ha!

I have never had any problems communicating with anyone in Quebec. The thing that pisses me off though is the French only bullshit. If Quebec wants federal tax dollars then there should be bilingual signs.
