I got swindled into Life Leadership a few years back. While there Financial Fitness pack was very helpful, eye opening, (and in a few spots laughable)... I still got a lot of value out of it. I am a lot better at keeping the money I make. I still listen to the cd's every once in a while. They were like a financial podcast.

Still... it was a Pyramid Scheme, and the the people that ran the local meeting fed me a lot of mis-information, and the big push was to get everyone paying a $100/month marketing program. (They oddly left that at the coffee shop when I first met them.)

They (and by they I mean skeptics) say if you can sign up 5 people, and they sign up 5 people, and so on, and so on.... you can only go 13 layers deep and you've exceeded the planets population.

I don't know about skeptics but a 5 grade student will tell you that even 14 layers deep you only get to a bit over 6 billion so there'd still be quite a few people left! A lot of opportunities out there!

In many respects it is a scheme. Money is pooled and payments end when you die, unless you have a surviving spouse.
You could unfortunately die young and never collect your contributions. There is only a $2500 death benefit.
Frankly if I was single and knew the end was near I would try to get some deserving lady the CPP pension for life just to even the playing field.

I did join a pyramid scheme
I knew it was a scheme (despite the company claiming it was not) and yet the person pitching me did get me to sign on the dotted line

I managed to come out ahead despite doing no real work (the system they used was diff than what I consider a "typical" scheme to be; they allowed the people above me to fill slots beneath me to increase their earnings + gaining me earnings in the process)
But income was a few hundred a month; nowhere near the "hundreds of thousands" that the sales meetings promised
Still tax free as it would hardly qualify as "employment"

It was honestly pretty cultish imo and I was (by far) the youngest person I observed at any meetings

I know they have been investigated, sued, shut down, rebooted etc many times (that was the only reason I left, otherwise would prob still be collecting cheques to this day)
And with power of Google I can see alot of very unsavoury connections in who really was running the shell game

Ironically they just did a relaunch (again) and a few states are really chasing them (taking advantage of covid and people unemployed)

I was highschool friends with one guy whose prominent in the Toronto MLM scene. He stopped talking to me after I didn't join one of the schemes, he did get me into AMWAY before and it went nowhere. He was one of the few ppl from highschool who I would consider a friend, and I've heard these things do destroy all sorts of relationships. The government needs to do more to inform new immigrants of these things, because they are the easiest and biggest targets.

The Ex-OPP platoon commander guy whose banned from trading securities in two provinces is one of the big guys in this thing in Canada. Edward Snowden is known for making him look foolish, in the local scene.

My closest friend from university got me into WFG. We both made no money, she fucked the guy above us.

in the early 2000s i applied for this job. i went to a small interview. the next day i with somebody spend all day doing door to door trying to sign up people for phone company looking for new costumers. this company was part of the DS-MAX, cydcor, smart circle, innovage, group pf companies. after all day of walking door to door i never went back

DS-MAX, Smart Circle, Cydcor, Innovage, Granton, Quantum, The Landers Group, Cobra Group, PerDM, Credico, Appco Group, Optimo International, Socio Max, etc., are the exact same company. They all have the same system, run the same scam, and are owned by the same people. They all have a “management training program”, incorporate their managers in order to avoid lawsuits, post misleading advertisements on career websites, and lie and cheat like it’s going out of style. Having all these names is the only way to keep their racket alive because it makes it harder for people to find out who they’re working for.

Just think about it. Why do they have so many names? If they were doing good deeds, they wouldn’t need to hide within their nested spheres of deception and duplicity. If they were doing the right thing, they would gather their entire organization under one banner and proudly advertise themselves to the world. Instead, they change names like people change underwear and continue their fraud with different identities so new employees don’t know who they’re working for.

I watched a friend of mine, a yoga teacher, get sucked into the Kangen water filter scheme. They charged her 5k for a canister that held water and was supposed to purify it thru whatever bullshit they came up with.

Complete scam, especially when they wanted her to sell it to others.

She irritated most of her friends online and in person for 2 months before realizing it was all a MLM.

$5000 for a water “filter”. Jesus what a scam.

Always hit the artsy and yoga types with purifying environmentally friendly scams. It's the only time they'll pony up real money.

Got arm twisted into 3. Knowing full well. Amway was one of them. Even the Sample pack was unusable.
The most recent was Ethereum. Luckily only lost a thousand.
