Here's a story about Ferenc Puskas:
When Puskas was a young player who's star was on the ascendancy, he played for Hungary in an friendly against Italy. When the game ended Puskas sought out Azzurri and Grande Torino captain Valentino Mazzola to exchange strips with. The legendary Italian told the Hungarian that his talent was undeniable and that he would become a great champion.
Grande Torino was perhaps the strongest team in Europe, and would win five succesive scudettos in the late 40's. Tragically the Superga air crash would bring that dynasty to an end, Valentino Mazzola was killed, Grande Torino was wiped out and the Azzurri would be minnows at the World Cup throughout the 1950's.
As Italy collapsed, Mazzola's prediction for Puskas became reality. Before the Iron Curtain closed Puskas would move to Spain and join Real Madrid. With the Merengues he became an International star and helped the club win the first five Champions Cups (1956 - 60) establishing a dynasty. He would also power Hungary to a demolition of England at Wembley.
In 1964 Real Madrid would play Inter Milan in the Champions Cup Final. After the match Puskas sought out and exchanged strips with Sandro Mazzola, Valentino's son. He told the younger Italian what a great football player and great man his father had been and wished him more glory in the future. Sandro Mazzola would win 2 Champions Cups with Inter and help the Azzurri win the 1968 European Cup.
Ferenc Puskas had class.
