Just got back from my first trip to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
I stayed at the Jack Tar Village which is one of 10 or so resorts that make up the Playa Dorada complex.
The resort is very secure as is the complex. Locals are allowed into some of the resorts' casinos and discos.
The resort is very beautiful and has an onsite casino and is surrounded by a nice golf course.
Had the worst luck ever in the casino. I mean every day, every table, every shoe, nothing but terrible cards
for everyone. Fortunately there were a few good shoes which I took advantage of and got some of my money back.
The golf course is decent but not cheap. Greens fee $50US, cart $25US, and mandatory caddie $20US. I played after 1
when the cart is optional. If I am going to pay for a caddy, the least he can do is carry my bag instead of
sitting in the cart.
Jack Tar is an adults only resort. I love kids but find they do not enhance the ambiance of a resort.
There are many styles of rooms available. Mine was 1 of 3 in a building and was very nice, clean and large
with a huge firm king size bed, ceiling fan, and remote control for air conditioner was a nice touch.
Nice well manicured yard with table and chairs.
Despite our tour reps. suggestions on tipping, I only saw one person tip the whole week I was there.
The all inclusive price includes a very tiny amount of tips. I enjoy tipping people. I tipped everyone,
generously and often and it was very much appreciated. The smiles and thanks were priceless.
One of the bartenders gave me a bottle of rum for a present.
Everyone I talked to had never gone into town. Even some people who have been there many times never go into town.
I could not handle just staying on a resort. At least Play Dorada has other casinos and discos to visit but I
still need to go into town and see the sites and the people.
I ended up going into town several times. I would rent a taxi for the night for $25 or $30US.
First stop was a high end strip club call La Bohem. No cover charge and drinks were around $5US each.
I saw some guys dancing with their chicas but I did not see any kind of stage show.
There were several very nice looking senoritas here. They were all looking at me licking their lips and swirling
their tongues, but as always, how does one know who will be personable.
One pretty girl sat down and said hola so I bought her a drink. She was quite friendly and
stimulating and offered to show me her room for $120US. I paid the bar but I do not know if this is a set price
or if she told them that this is what she was able to get from me. What followed was a very uninspired session with
no BBBJ but alot of pathetic acting. Then she asks me for a tip. I told her that I am very generous when it is
warranted, but she was not even close to deserving a cash tip. We go back to the bar and she comes over to talk to
my driver. He tells me that she wants to go to my hotel. I told him that it is not allowed and even if it were, I
would not take this chica anywhere. I would not write this place off based on one chica, but I had a very limited
amount of time. We finish our drinks and then head over to Cristals.
Cristals is very quiet. Cristals is set up as a more conventional strip club with stage shows.
A few ladies came by but most were not very nice looking. One nice looking girl came by and was quite friendly
so I bought her a drink. We ended up having a few drinks but I was not really looking for much else at this time.
She offered me 30 minutes lap dance for 400 pesos, $40CDN. I went for it and it was okay but lap dances don't
really do much for me anymore. I gave her $40 US and went back to the bar to have a few more drinks. It was nice
to have some Canadian Club for a change. By the way, the drinks at Cristals are a FUCKING RIPOFF BIGTIME at around
$10US each. Went for a pizza and called it a night.
