Ps3 question?

I suspect the answer to my question(s) is in a thread but I can't search ps3.

It is my understanding that one of the older models of the ps3 is capable of playing ps2 games but more importantly can run various versions Linux. I thought that the 80 gig model would do the trick but a 14yr old said "not all the 80 gig'ers can do it"

If someone could direct me to the specific model that would be great. Also I suspect finding a new one might be difficult so my next question is...is it possible to hack/crack/flash a new slim model to do what I want it to do?

Thanks,

Steve

For what PS3 offers, this is the way to go.

First GEN 60 gb used hardware emulation ... after that it was software emulation ..... Linux can be installed on any of them.....

This makes PS3 an even better choice.

For $300 you get!
A very good game console
A Blu-Ray player
A P4 grade PC desktop with wireless capability with 120GB HDD for storage and HDMI output with 1080p support.

The only weak link I see is 256 megs of RAM, in the event you want to install a newer Linux distro.

Thanks for the links guys!

While it says you can't install linux on PS3, if you have a linux distro like Ubuntu on a USB flash drive and plug it into one of the 2 USB ports, it should run Ubuntu off that flash drive.
Assuming that it works can I play games while in Linux or do I have to remove the stick and reboot?

Doubt you could play PS3 games while running Linux without removing the stick and rebooting but you could play the games that come with Linux. There are plenty of free games that come with Linux, then many more available for download in the Linux repositories, all free of course.
