I suspect it was "strolls' that were their target. haven't heard of anything else.

Yes, if you solicit street protitutes, then yes lay low. Why people take the legal , physical and health risks is beyond me, not to mention the impact street level prostitution has on the communities where it takes place, but to each their own.

You might want to consider avoiding chattline girls as they often are also street walkers and often operate in known strolls.

So only johns arrested, no prostitutes? May be they placed a bait to attract them.
They are not arresting the girls because they are trying to build trust with them. Its only with the girls help (reporting bad dates) that they will catch the serial killer that is lurking in our midsts.

Seems the police aren't coming outright and saying it...but there appears to be a general consensus that the ladies being killed over the years is being done by the same guy.
After the murder of Leanne the police have been put in a very awkward position... The police need the street girls to assist them... Now the only problem with that is over the pas several years, the police have been constantly bullying/arresting them. So lets say your a working girl that has been harrassed to death by the police, but then all of the sudden the police come to you and says: "Help us"... What would you say back?

So the police are now working to establish trust with these girls... Its really a very complicated game...

This is very hypocrit : either you arrest both the johns and the prostitutes because they are breaking the law or you don't arrest anybody. If they don't arrest the prostitutes they send a message that it's ok to continue illegal prostitution in the communities, which is kind of wrong if the communities are counting on police action to stop this trade.

The police have done this for years they use women officers and they go after the johns.
Their mind set is if they target the johns and they stay away the girls will also but this has gone on for 20 yrs not sure why everyone is surprised
Also yes thhere is a killer out there so they need to do something one john had a loaded gun glad they got him

This isn't a trade that is going to go away... Definately not by arresting johns, or girls...

Have you guys ever noticed how many cars with 1 guy in them are driving around at night in vanier? Police arrest 8 Johns... Nothing more then a drop in the bucket. But it does make the locals happy because it feels as though the police are helping the community.

But I do have a solution that would work to curb the prostitution issue... In vanier at least... Remove all drugs from that part of the city... There problem solved... 2 birds, 1 stone.

Realistic?

In all honesty your not going to get arrested for exchanging money for sex... But you will get arrested if you offer money to a cop in exchange for anything sex related...

Interesting thread...I don't know if this helps with anyone who is worried about being arrested, etc...however I do know a few things when it comes to prostitution and some laws. I have worked at the court house on Elgin since 2009 and have been a part of a project called "Forgotten Women" of Canada....prostitutes that have been murdered over the years and forgotten by society. The laws are there to protect these women, however the crown doesn't implement them in most cases.

Although I have worked with many policing agencies and the like, I have picked up on a few pointers from them. To protect myself (just in case), I never accept gift/donations/money before any session. I ask the gentleman kindly to wait till the end of our sessions. This is my safety zone and makes our sessions a much more enjoyable experience. Besides, I think it's impassive to accept donations or the like before any session....Lee

Exchange of money for sex or paying for sex is not illegal. Solicitating for sex in exchange for money in a public place is what gets them in trouble (or being in a place where clients of sex workers are frequenting). Waiting to the end for the gentleman to pay after he is done with, may not be the best advice for providers as a small minority may not be gentlemen and pay off at the end. It is best the donation to be paid upfront, in my view.
I agree with you, CH, waiting to pay after the session may not be a good idea for the reason you have stated. Most SP's prefer to see the envelop on the counter first thing after I've entered the room especially one whom I have never met before. Even for a regular, sometime I could sense some tension when for one reason or other, I have forgotten to hand over the envelop. Now, I make certain this is the first thing I'll do - may be after a few hugs and kissess .

I agree with this. I have researched the laws pretty extensively and there is nothing to suggest that paying at the end is going to protect you for criminal charges. Exchanging money for sexual services in private is not a crime. The charge that threatens a client who goes to an incall is "being found in a common bawdy house". No money needs to change hands for this charge and I can't even recall the last time the law was applied in Ottawa.

Hey all good points! Thanks! I guess I just prefer accepting money at the end of the sessions. I've never had a problem so far with doing this way. In any event, I was just giving my 2cents worth to those who were really paranoid with the exchange of money for services. Thanks all, great input!

Theoretically, the exchange of $ at the end protects the SP in an incall from a pseudo client (police officer), who will not generally have sex with an SP. He only needs to prove that it was an incall for prostitution and needs to prove money exchange to prove prostitution (in the incall). That being said the police officer is "allowed" (by the law) to have sex with the SP to prove prostitution in the incall. Some police officers don't do it because they have wives and GFs but they can theoretically do it if they want.

I don't think any judge would want to hear a cop had sex before charging the girl. LOL
You may be right, but remember undercover police officers who infiltrate criminal gangs have to break laws to be accepted (by the gangs) and that is part of their work, and the judges are fully awared of that. In fact, without infiltration, it's very hard to get acceptable evidence. Even though this is not at the same scale, an undercover police officer can have sex with an SP if that is the only way to get her convicted.

Somebody needs to brush-up on criminal laws. Nobody can legally do any criminal acts. A cop can not commit a crime, even if he is undercover. This is a way gangs use to bust cop infiltration, they ask the suspected cop to commit a crime. At times the cop's organization will arrange a fake crime to coverup or the cop will have to retreat. If the cop have to do something illegal because he is in immediate danger, the case will be closely analyzed after and it is likely he will be removed from the case or it could jeopardize the entire operation in front of the judge if he is left there.

I know a few female officers who used to do infiltration to bust stripclub and MP prostitution and they were not even allowed to take their cloths off because it was considered immoral, even less allowed to fuck a customer in the back room because that was illegal.

What LE often do is to use informants. Morality is no longer an issue with an informant. The cop can not tell the informant to commit a crime but can not control what the informant do. If the informant commit a crime, depending how serious the crime is the cop will arrange to get him immunity in exchange of collaboration. If the defendant can prove the crime was requested by the cop the informant's testimonial will get dropped.
