I'm experiencing difficulty logging in to the chatroom. All I get is the ad banner at the top, and a blank gray screen with the "how do I?" section at the bottom. Has anyone else experienced this??

Try clearing your cache and then re-booting your computer. It worked for me.

I agree

Are you doing this from home or work? If you are doing it a work most companys run a Firewall or a Proxy Server or both. I have sucssesfully gotten around our proxyserver as that was my issue but then again I am one of the network admins. You will probably not be able to bypass this unless you are good buddies with your Admin and can get him to open up the proper ports.

If you are doing this at home make sure port 8080 is not blocked. I think that is the port the javascript is using....FRED????

are you running win xp? the problem is the java vm. win xp does not include the jvm in the original release. they allowed the jvm dowload prior to july 10, 2002, and discontinued it after then. if you don't have the jvm, you can use sun's jvm if you want. you can wait for win xp sp1 which will be released 09/09/2002 or install a fresh copy of the updated win xp sp1.

Help

The error message I get is

"Login Failed Please go back and try again"

Doesn't matter what I do, or what I try....

I am not sure Zap. I would encourage those who can't log in to try from a different machine and see if that makes a difference. I suspect the problem might be related to a personal or corporate firewalls as well. Or they need to update their version of Java, but I forget the exact link where they can do that.

I will check with tech admin.

HI Fred. I went to the login screen, entered my info and got the above error message.

I then went to the "Sign up an ERCHAT account right now" and re-entered my information, at which time I was rec'ed the "Congratulations" announcement.

I just tried reentering my information at the Sign up screen again, and was advised "We could not take you sign up please note the remark(s) and resubmit: The username TJ in the 'Peg has already been taken" so it knows I exist, it just won't let me in....

I used my original TERB information (ID and PW) to set up my erchat account. If I try again, but change my ID to something else, will it impact anything on TERB (ie number of posts, my PM's etc, etc)?

You guys are not good material for white collar crime..lol
Your original TERB handle [which you are having problems with] is already in the chat database. Create a new Chat ID:

eg: Change your username slightly & use a different email addy.

No, this won't affect your post count on TERB. For the TERB board just keep your old TERB handle & p/w.

Looks like I'm have a java problem. I can get on to ERChat from my home machine (using Sympatico High Speed). I get through the log in screen just fine, I can see who's logged in to chat but ... I can't see the actual chat.

There's no traffic on my modem so somehow I'm getting to the main set of screens then I come to a screeching halt.

Ideas anyone? Should I try finding a java update or something?
