Had a big "Oh No!" moment looking at my e-mail this morning as Silvano's Color Lab sent out notice they are closing up shop after 57 years serving the high-end needs of Toronto photographers. :frusty:

I've used them for the past 20 years for all my artistic nude printing of models. Their specialty was wedding printing, which made them great (IMO) for nude work as people-pictures were their prime focus (as opposed to say landscape work). I had a commercial account with them as my volumes were over $5k a year, even though this (artistic nude photography) was a hobby for me and not a business.

So now I need to find a new pro lab for my printing of fine art nudes. Silvano's used Kodak Professional matte paper, which I liked. They also had an online site where I could upload my images (including both .jpg and big .tif files) and play around with cropping and sizing before submitting my order. They would then mail me the prints in a sturdy box so I didn't have to go to their physical location near the old Kodak plant, since I am never around there. They billed my account and send statements.

Last week Kodak declares Chapter11, this week Silvano's says they are closing February 3rd - crap, January is off to a bad start!

So, any photographically-minded members know of any good quality pro-labs in the GTA that specialize in people/weddings and also do artistic nudes prints on pro matte paper in sizes 5x7", 8x10", 8x12", and 16x20"? Any pointers would be appreciated! Thanks!

In her vagina
* Toronto Image Works on Spadina been using them since i was an Ad student and when i needed to print my own 30x40s
* Custom Colour on Chesswood was the only one from the older "wedding labs" to sink some "connected money" into the digital realm.
* There is The Lounge Photo a fujifilm lab, they're a small op but the prints are good quality
* Colorgenics over at Broadview (Davies) i use to do some E6 over there.

Couple others but these are the better ones for "walk-ins", a few online.

It bugged me when Kodak's announcement came out a few days ago.
I always respected Silvano labs. What a sad day. For some reason this is just as sad.
There's a craftsmanship that is gone, dare I say lost to be never found again. But unfortunately not too many photographers will care.

As mentioned above TIW is very very good! There is also a place called 44Wide in Liberty Village. I spoke with the owner and his reason for opening his own printing shop was because he was not pleased with Pikto ... LOL ... Pikto never did it for me. :p

lol, I got better color prints from pikto (when using their computer to do final touch) than from TIW, but would go to TIW to print b&w photos. Sounds interesting. Maybe I will give 44Wide a try.

In the laboratory.
Geez, I remember when Silvano's was on Eglinton West near Dufferin. Sad to hear they are closing up shop.
