I know that you can book hotels in Canada on the U.S. Priceline with name your own price. Don't know if that helps you.

priceline.ca just links you to priceline.com.

As for the offers once your bid is accepted you are on the hook. No getting out of it.

Another good site to use is hotwire.com. Similar to priceline in terms of being on the hook but hotwire states the prices upfront. You just don't get the hotel name until after purchasing.

NOTE: 2 1/2 star is basically your minimum bid. The 2 1/2 stars on priceline are better quality than 2 1/2 stars on hotwire. Save yourself the bullshit and just don't go for anything less than 3 star. You will not be dissapointed with the quality or 3 star properties.

So you make a bid, if it's accepted you're on the hook even without knowing what hotel it is?

Yes, that's the 'hook' for getting a discount price.
So if your bid isn't accepted, it's too low you're not on the 'hook', the strategy then would be to start off with a low ball bid ?

Correct. Just remember that if your first bid is refused you must change one of the criteria. This would include area, date, or price. Assuming the dates and locations are not flexible start with a high number star. If that is declined move to the next star and so on.

The records are kept based on the credit card number - not you email or name. Therefore you can make different bids with different credit card numbers.

After 48 hours everything resets and priceline will send you an email. In other words if you have bidded all you can for the stars that you want and did not get a room you will be able to repeat the process in 2 days.

Why not just book in person or over the phone... day rates cheap as it is =)
Really its business, they wont ask questions.
There's no day rate deals in downtown toronto other than a few dives. The rate I got off Priceline beats the best downtown day rate by 40%.

If you're not comfortable bidding on Priceline I recommend www.Hotels.ca. All fees included in final price quoted like Priceline which is in US$.

By the way is it possible to be charged if you're caught smoking in a non-smoking hotel room?

O YA.

Stayed at the Sheraton in Richmond Hill a year or so ago and about 2 weeks after I checked out there was a 200 charge on my visa statement.

I called to ask WTF and was told that I smoked in a non-smoking room. Obviously I denied it and was put through to the manager. She told me that the maids had photos of ashes on the desk and some on the nightstand.

Being as guily as hell I thanked the lady on the phone and chalked this one up as a learning experience.

I'm sure you could really bitch to the point of having it reduced or eliminated but I always find it harder to defend myself when I know I did wrong.

If you're a smoker why take a non-smoking room? And why do smoker's have no regard for someone elses property?
