I would think that Jonathan Cheechoo would have to be on that list. And he is my vote.

ahh I never could understand how you got that one wrong as I know you are a good sports fan and almost a betting fanatic haha...It was only a misunderstanding on my part

Forsberg

I'm thinking he is finally going to have an injury free year and win the scoring title. And there it's Heatley, not Heatly :p

the secret worry out of washington is that ovechkin has only scored 1 assist in all of his preseason games and that includes playing with zednik.

I think both Crosby and Ovechkin have an excellent shot at it with the extra year's experience. They are both playing on teams that aren't going to be contending anytime soon, thus nobody will be holding them back from play just for their own stats, since they are in fact the only reason for anyone to buy a ticket to a Pens or Caps game, or tune in to watch on TV.

Crosby has a bit of an egde in terms of good talent surrounding him.

He might get off to a slow start after his first full year including a very emotionally draining effort in the Olympics and the high impact physical game he played all year in Washington. I don't think Zednik is necessatily an asset, he just doesn't use his good shot enough and is inconsistent.

As the league gets a little more used to both Crosby and Ovechkin, they'll find that they are less able to do things on their own and will need to use their linemates more. While Ovechkin is tougher to handle one-on-one (or one-on two for that matter) I think Crosby has a bit of an edge in using the other players on the ice and will have a better season this year.

Crosby might be the one that is tougher 1 on 1... he's definitely the stronger of the two- both in strength and in skill and stays on his feet better than almost any superstar out there... not taking anything from AO, but, he AO, is 3,almost 4 years ahead of Crosby when considering how much longer pro experience he has by playing in a pro-mens superleague in russia... he is also 2 years more advanced in age. also, AO's game is that he's purely a better shooter and hitter. but the shooter title could be called into question also (not that i agree that it should be questioned), Syd has a bit more accurate shot, his scoring %age is much higher, but that is due to the pure volume that AO shoots on net. 425 shots on net! 2nd was Jagr at 368 shots, then Olli Jokinen at 351. it is my opinion though that AO is still a better natural goal scorer and hitter than Syd. Just as how Lemieux was a better natural goal scorer than Gretzky- Gretz was still the better player.

many people say Crosby's the best to come since Gretzky. this has been said before about Lemieux, Jagr and even Eric Lindros at one time. but, the one thing that stands out is the growing consensus among his opponents in the nhl now saying that he will probably have a Gretzky like career. he has taken on the big game as a teenager- the youngest active player last season, the youngest ever to have scored 100pts., in fact and Syd clearly excels at it.

I'm wondering how many points Syd will get this season... it will be difficult for him to repeat his rookie performance, yet he should be able to do it with his talent and skillset. I still think Syd is 4 years from breaking out. He's still a teenager. We'll have to see. Certainly if Syd gets 'only' 70 points this year, most will see this as a huge upset. It's not, though.... not for a 18 or 19 year old, that's for sure. Besides, how many points did the rookie leader get in 03/04? 63. For that person to get 70 in his sophomore year, that would be a considerable increase.

as is for every season's predictions, everyone sticks to the performers from last year.

a year ago at this time, Martin St. Louis stole a huge majority of the votes. guess what Kovalchuk and Sakic were 2nd and 3rd...

not bragging at all... i usually suck at predictions, but i use game theory statistics that i learned back in philosophy to make my predictions... i use the only logical choice i know of... sometimes it pays off, most times not...however, i was the only 1 who picked thornton at preseason... lucky for me i stuck with him through the good and bad of the season...

Boy ain't that a surprise. Ovechkin held off the scoresheet for the homeopener... and a -4 to boot! and the people from rogers sportsnet pick him as the best player in the nhl...

as posted elsewhere earlier:
average goals per game right now is around 6. when Wayne Gretzky played in his first two seasons the average goals per game was above 7!

after Wayne Gretzky's first 109 games played as a pro (WHA & NHL combined), he had scored a whopping 137 points.
Sydney Crosby's play at the same age and after his 1st 109 games as a pro is the only player to score more at a younger age with his 153 pts.

goals have come easier in the early '80s as compared to now, and yet, Crosby is still finding a way to perform at such a young age in this game.
