Never mind the black outs. Lots of peoples basements got flooded. We got no black outs but the back yard was ponding.
Down near the lake all the Gardiner underpasses were flooded. I think "The Big Pipe" (storm water retention system) was full. Can't see any big plumes of silty water anywhere along the harbour, lake or down past the Humber River.
I wonder if that system in in effect downtown or does stormwater go right into the harbour or lake?

It really is the Don Valley Parking lot!
Isn't the mouth of the Don River still partially blocked/diverted while the wetlands are being constructed? I think they are supposed to alleviate this in the future, once the works are done. Been on that site... quite a civil works project!
My mom's basement got flooded. Spent the afternoon phoning the insurance co....

I wonder what kind of sewer hookup he has for a place that size? You'd think he'd have several backflow preventers. Unless that is from sewers backing up on the street.
In any case, shit water is about as difficult a stench to get out as anything. EVERYTHING has to be taken to bare concrete. Cleaned, bleached and sealed.
And it it is the City of Toronto's fault, I think that it has liability. That's going to be a multi-million dollar cleanup and restoration!!!
Did she consider hiring more social workers? They could deescalate the water level to prevent severe flooding.

You want ever road shut down preemptively when rain approaches? All the downtown underpassesat the lower end of York, Simcoe. Rees, Spadina had standing water. and areas beneath the Gardiner also ahd standing water.
Don River is the center of the main surface watershed of a huge area. It floods somewhat regularly and in response the City studied, planned for, engineered and is now almost completed a pretty impressive settling wetland to soak up those big rainfall events and prevent the spewing of dirty street surfce water from going directly into the lake.
