Actually, my computer is matte silver. As for the (join us) comment about Mac users being a cult, (relax and get out you credit card) I seriously take offense. To make such a comment about (buy a Mac now) people who choose freely to spend a little more (they cost 400% more and you'll look artsy and cool) for a product that they enjoy and depend on (the hard drive may brick on you but you'll be still be cool) is vindictive and (join us) spiteful.

Just stick with your PC and (buy a Mac) leave Mac users alone and (seriously, the Mac dude in the commercials is much cooler than the PC guy) don't make (be one of us) generalized comments about cults.

Rhyme, don't get into a pissing contest with WoodPeckr. His wallet is tighter than anyone I know. If a Mac only costed $5 more than a PC, he would still not buy it and would go on about how he saved the $5 on his purchase! lol

I have the feeling that the rumoured Mac tablet is going to blow people away in the same way that the iPhone did. Everyone knew that Apple was going to release a cell phone, but when they finally showed the world what they had, everyone was blown away, and the competition was left in the dust.

I don't think Apple is just going to release just another tablet PC. It's been done before, and this is not Apple's style. Once they decide to play in the sandbox, they will do so with technology and a user interface that will dominate everything else that came before it. It is in Apple's DNA to do this, and this strategy has paid off in spades. It will be all about ease of use, and the user interface. Everyone else will try to copy them, but they won't be able to copy the OS which runs it, just like the iPhone.

Apple did not create the first MP3 player, yet look at what they accomplished with the iPod. They did not create the first smart phone, yet look what has happened with the iPhone. Everywhere I look, I see iPhones now. The same thing will happen with the tablet....it will be the device that will set the standard for this type of product. I could be wrong, but it would be foolish to bet against Apple and Steve Jobs.

Really, you(s) surely come across as cultists!....:D
FWIW. Just got a cutting edge PC that Apple can't even match!
It has an Intel® Core™ i7 Processor which blows away Quads. Am very happy with it and paid only ~$1000 for it, while a dated Quad Mac would have cost at least triple that and then NOT MATCH the performance of the i7 Processor!

Are you sure about that? You can get the 27" iMac with a 2.8 ghz Quad Core i7 processor installed. Yes, it will cost you much more than $1000 (I won't get into the price debate with you), but it does come with an absolutely gorgeous 27" LED display that nothing on the market today can touch:

And the new edgeless, LED-backlit screen with 2,560x1,440-pixel native resolution is simply jaw-dropping for viewing high-definition video. Simply put: We've seen a ton of them, and no other current all-in-one offers a screen that looks this good. In fact, to get a similar resolution on any desktop-computer display, you’d have to step up to a 30-inch monitor, which would set you back $1,000 or more for the display alone.
http://computershopper.com/desktops/reviews/apple-imac-27-inch

I am so drooling to get one of these, and hopefully by the spring of next year, I'll have one in my home.

As of last week a few Apple Store salemen in the mall said Apple didn't have any Mac with an i7. A couple didn't even know what an i7 CPU was! Glad to see Apple now offers an i7 CPU which is blazing FAST! Introduction of the i7 is the reason Quads are dropping in price so. Here in the States you can get a nice Quad with 20" LCD monitor & printer for $500 now.

yeah the tablet is definitely coming and will blow people away. if they can make a macbook air which i think is crazy....im sure they can produce an enlarged iphone. im an apple fan but i got a BB. BBs are pretty sick. but the tablet should be out of this world. but, i'm still trying to figure out what its good for. i'm guessing to replace a clipboard or something to use when im in bed. i really dont see myself sitting at a table using this thing. but you never know. conventional thinking never gets you anywhere....

I'm in the market for either an i5 or i7 desktop to replace my Core 2 Duo. What are the specs in your machine? I'm also hoping to go with a mini-ATX case to reduce the footprint the machine takes up.

Addendum: Wait, you're in the U.S.? PC components in Canada tend to cost anywhere from 10%-30% more here :( And if you can find a "Quad with 20" LCD monitor & printer for $500" (presumably Core 2 Quad you're talking about), what's the video card in there?

I got this Dell and agree with the glowing reviews.
It goes for $100 less in WNY stores till Christmas.
I'm no 'gamer' so it is excellent for my uses as is.

i7 is better than the i5.
Prices are still dropping so there is no reason to rush and get it because the deals just seem to get better as time passes.

After reading about the i7 with DDR3 ram, I lost interest in Quad Cores.

Clearly they're going after the e-reader and mobile content markets (mags, movies, music)..... One article I read stated that when Jobs came back to work he slowed the tablet release down because he wanted a device that would do more than "allow you to surf the web on the toilet" which I thought was pretty funny.

Will be interesting to see how aggressively Apple rides the demand curve on this - do they go for margin or volume.

I don't think most of us have any idea on what market Apple is going for with the "rumoured" tablet. Apple tends to create a market for their product, rather than try to satisfy an existing market. They did it with the iPod, and they've done it with the iPhone. Who would have imagined having a phone as literally a portable computer, being able to easily (and very intuitively) browse the web (using a full browser and not just a mobile web browser, which is what existed before the iPhone), be able to do many other things, and finally, to have a marketplace (download apps right to your phone) with 100,000+ apps (in just over a year since the app store opened!).

A quote that Steve Jobs has used, and has integrated the philosophy into the DNA structure of the company, comes from Wayne Gretzky. "I skate to where the puck is going to be, and not where it is now" (I am quoting from memory, so I may have skewed the words a little bit, but I think you get the picture). Apple's plans with the tablet are not going to be to satisfy what we need now, but instead they will create a product that will create demand through its innovation, and it will create a whole new market. Of course, this plan may fail, but as I mentioned before, you'd be a fool to bet against Apple!

As to Apple store personnel, they have the "Mac Geniuses", highly trained people able to solve problems and have very good knowledge across the board on their products, and then you have regular sales staff, with some training, but by no means "Mac Geniuses". If a staff member told you that Apple doesn't have i7's in their machines, then it obviously was just one of the sales staff. Obviously their sales staff need to be trained better! I think they're still a cut above most other computer retail shops, but there's always room for improvement. Kind of like another Apple store salesperson who told you that you could install Mac OSX on any Intel machine (without hacking measures)! lol

As someone else mentioned, they've had i7's in their Pro desktop line for some time now, and introduced i7's in their iMac consumer line this Fall. The new Imacs are simply stunning, and are unibody aluminum (cut from one sheet of aluminum) just like the Macbook Pro's. There is no plastic anywhere on the body of the machine, they are sleek and elegant, and the display literally covers the entire face of the machine. They are absolutely gorgeous, and the display quality is unparalleled in anything on the market today (specifically the 27" LED). They even come with a standard wireless keyboard and mouse, increasing the minimalist footprint of the machine. I was in someone's house a little while ago and they had an iMac right on the kitchen counter. The machine takes up so little real estate, and the wireless mouse and keyboard only make it look even cleaner and uncluttered. Me wants one so bad!!!!! lol

Now i find it interesting you bought the Dell since Dell pulled their support of Ubuntu LTS.
Did u get it pre installed with Suse the official supported Linux of Dell?

Fair enough, just sharing what I've heard about where they are going with this rumored device.

I have a Mac in my kitchen as well, have the 23" monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse - the Mac Pros is behind a cabinet door designed to hold a computer.... great family computer location, and the screen saver with photos seems to be a good conversation point at parties...

Just reporting what the Apple folks told me.
They should have known an i7 was Nelham, as I knew that.

It only came with Win7.
I installed a dual boot setup with KK, took 31 minutes, because I still prefer Ubuntu over SUSE.
