mine are:

1)David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust..genius concept..concept album about rock'n'roll itself

2)The Who - Quadrophenia..can be a bit of a downer at times..deals with depression and so forth..I think it's their best album

The problem are that there aren't that many concept albums to choose from.

Ones that haven't been mentioned but suck are the Eagles and their western concept album and Queensryche and Operation mindcrime.

I think Blackie Lawless had one.

Oh and what about Billy Idol's Cyberpunk.

Radiohead's Kid A.

Quadrophenia by the Who.

Hmmmm I'll take a pass and say there isn't really a good one that comes to mind. Tommy is fine and so is the Wall but I find myself reaching for Who's NExt and Darkside of the Moon long before thinking of those two concept albums.

Oh yeah PEte Townsend had a solo concept album as well....

The Beach Boys had a lot of them, I like Surfer Girl album.

The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow is a great one that's usually overlooked.

I wouldn't include Sgt Pepper as a concept album, it's a string of great songs that don't share a theme except having Billy Shears in the band.

Funny, Sgt. Pepper is often listed as the first concept record.

The Middle Kingdom
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Concept: Insanity

Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon
The Concept: Insanity (Pink Floyd's favourite topic)

The Alan Parsons project - Tales of mystery and imagination of Edgar Allan Poe
The Concept: The works of Edgar Allan Poe put to music

Klaatu - Hope
The Concept: The story of a lost civilization and it's last sole survivor

Rush - 2112
The Concept: Totalitarianism set in the future.

Jeff Wayne's - War of the Worlds
The Concept: Musical rendition of the H G Wells classic

My teenage son and daughter are both into the music that I listened to at their age. I find it funny because I wouldn't be caught dead listening to music my dad listened to. I explained to them about concept albums, that they were a collection of songs with a common theme or when played in sequence, told a story. They were amazed with the artistic content that went into them. Even the album art on some of them was really creative.

Concept albums are a lost art.
