Guys great news, just talked to someone at Porter airlines and they will be adding Montreal within the next few months as their 2nd destination.
This means you can fly for dirt-cheap from the Toronto island to Montreal and back. Very convenient cause you dont have the waiting times and expense of having to go through Pearson airport.

I expect prices will be about $150 for a return flight

Don't vote for Miller...

That is good news.

I was going to take a trip to Montreal last weekend but cancelled at last minute. First class train ticket was $440. return.

Dumb ass David Miller though still says he is going to kill the Island Airport.

Unless the Airport gets to him first. They should take his "clean sweep" broom and install the handle gently in his a**. That lefty piece of sh*t needs to go.

Travel in VIA 1 class at a fraction of the price!
Until December 14 (inclusive), VIA 1 class can be yours at an unbeatable price! For instance, travel between Toronto and Montréal for only $149 (before taxes) per direction.
http://www.visaperks.ca/visaperks/o...6060044&clear=y&CFID=6419239&CFTOKEN=10460981 always has a 35% discount coupon on VIA economy if you have a VISA card
That's good info. Thanks.

When I booked my seat I just called Via on the phone and I was quoted $440.(tax inc) for 1st class. Could have went econo for around $280 but when I asked the difference she sold me on more space, better food (included at no extra cost), free drinks, power plug and internet access for my lap top.

If I could fly out of Island Airport though for $300. of course would have done that.

If domestic airfare in Canada was as cheap as in the US, so many of us would be flying around Canada doing local trips instead. For $400. smacks, I can add another $200. and spend a week all inclusive somewhere down south!!

Air Canada was planning on taking off from the Island Airport back on August 21st but were legally stopped and couldn't fulfill that commitment.

However I had already purchased a ticket and return trip because I bought them before they pulled the plug. Its was 50$ cheaper than what Porter is proposing to charge. Came out 250 return taxes in.

So unfortunately they transferred my flight to Pearson, but I kept my rate. My hope is that if Porter gets the go ahead, Air Canada will too.

I'm so sick of flying into Toronto to work, only to have to get stuck in traffic to get downtown. I'd rather stay in Montreal.

I'm pleased we have more choices for flights...but honestly, who would fly to Montreal?
Jeez its only 5 hours by comfortable car.

I agree, when it a weekender or every so often, but when working regularly its a bit of a pain and deadly in the winter time.

You'd be surprised how many french people here don't know how to write french. I give him a 8 out of 10 for effort.

No I mean for work.
I've done the drive 6 times since late june.
Think about it.
Let's say you live at Yonge&Egg.
You have a 7Am Flight at Pearson. You are going for a week so you have checked bags.
Got to get to the Airport for 6AM right? Leave Your Place at 5:15.
Flight is One Hour plus at least 40 min of Taxi at the two Airports.
You arrive at 8 AM and get bags, total time let's say 30min.
Pick up rental CAr...takes 15min and another 15 to walk to car, and get trunk loaded.
Drive to Central Montreal. Morning rush-hour, say 1 hour.
Total time to"fly" 325 min = 5.41 hours.

I agree that it's more touch and go when the weather is crappy, but at least many bad drivers are afraid to venture out.

I hear ya, the problem is I do it every two weeks, except now that I am working in Calgary. Lovely town by the way . No offense to any Calgarians, just not my kind of town.

Anyway, I live in Montreal, about 15 minutes away from the airport. I leave my place at 5:15 to catch the 6:30 flight. I only ever have carry on bags because I only every stay in Toronto a week at a time. Hit Toronto at about 7:45, (if no airline delays like the engine problem this week)

My biggest issue is getting from Pearson to downtown, in morning rush hour no less. Plus that's where my hotel's usually are. Then treking back to Pearson during rush hour.

If I flew into Downtown. Paradise.

But I hear ya man. Driving with the top down in the summer, tunes cranked, I'll do it at a drop of a hat over flying or taking the train.

My grammar may be flawed but as long as you understood what I wrote then its mission accomplished.
My grade 12 French is just enough to get me laid :D

True, fewer bad drivers but the few that are out there will tie up both lanes of 401 doing 60mph. Especially around holidays & long weekend. It's a zoo at the reststops.

Miller has no authority over airport. Feds been quietly upgrade the airport ferry in prep of this.

If only the flying taxes aren't so hefty..

I can't wait for Porter to fly to NYC.:)
