Doctor threatened to kill a speed camera operator if he ever became his patient, a misconduct hearing was told yesterday.

David Heal leapt from his Porsche to swear at the operator and attempted to knock his hand to stop him photographing the car, the General Medical Council heard.

He allegedly added: ‘If you ever come to me for treatment, I will make sure you die.’

The doctor had, it was claimed, previously abused a female speed camera operator while complaining about a speeding ticket he was given.

The alleged outbursts, which took place in Hove, Sussex, in 2007 and 2008, were two of a string of occasions when the medic allegedly lost his temper.

Why is this professional misconduct?

Threatening law enforcement people is a crime.

Just guessing here but maybe it has something to do with the oath they take regarding patients under their care?

Yeah, contrary to the Hippocractic Oath and uttering threats.

They weren't in the clinic. They had no plans to meet in the clinic. The idiot doctor was merely expressing a sick wish. It's like saying "I wish you would die" or "drop dead" is a death threat.

If you have the power to carry it out, it is a threat. Hove isn't a huge place, and even this wee précis makes it clear the doc had put a bit of thought into how to make his threat convincing, rather than merely silly.

"Oh, Drop dead" may be a childish catchphrase, but your other example is definitely not, and anyone trying to 'get off' because it's meaningless is clearly as stupid as they believe their listeners to be. No one with half an adult brain says such things; if you keep hearing them, you hang with the wrong crowd.

Foolish threat, made in anger and with no current possibility of it being acted upon. OTOH, it would certainly make the officer nervous if she was to attend for treatment at the same hospital as the foolish doctor practised at.

I don't take the threat seriously, but it probably some minor type of professional misconduct.

Doc should apologize at the very least.

The doctor, it seems, has difficulty keeping to the speed limit, and then when he is caught speeding, feels he should get off. Hence the death threat.

I think as punishment, the doctor should have his Porche impounded for a year and be forced to drive 4 cylinder Toyota Corolla. That should be a humbling experience.
