I've been trying to figure out the rationale of the recent nonsense surrounding the City of Toronto Christmas ( sorry Holiday ) tree . Apparantly it is offensive to celebrate Christmas publically . Why this is the case has got me somewhat confused . And while I appreciate that this may not be too difficult to do I thought others could enlighten me .

Now obviously those that might be offended must be people that have other religious beliefs . What I am having a hard time understanding is why anyone would be offended .Other than perhaps a mild sense of being ' left out ' of the celebration I am hard pressed to understand .

Maybe I'm just an insensitive lout but I would much prefer increasing the celebration of other religion's special times than homogenizing Christmas . Not than I'm particularly religious but I've always enjoyed the feelings around this time of the year .

Perhaps someone can fill me in.

It is not politically correct to be a Christian these days.

Christmas originated as a celebration of Jesus' birth. People are getting ticked that mainstream society isn't at the very least, recognizing that.

Imagine someone saying that you can't fly a Canadian flag in a public area on Canada Day, because Canada Day is a day for barbeques and family get-togethers, not to mention the single largest shopping season of the year.

If you're not Christian, fine. If you are "offended" by the word "Christ" or "Christmas", get a life.

My Pet Peeve...

at this time of the year is the word: Xmas. I personally find it very disconcerting when the word Christ is taken out of Christmas. I'm not religious by any stretch but, this would have to be a glaring example of capitalizm at it's ugliest. Just my 0.02 cents (a capitalist with a heart).
